I have tried zyban in the past. It worked
really well, however the side affects were
awful for me.
I just heard about Chantix and was
wondering if anyone has tried it and how
they feel about it.
Thanks,
Dawn

I'll Let You Know.... Posted: 07-13-07 08:38am
I just started Chantix about a week ago.
So far- no side effects. I liked
wellbutrin but I was deathly allergic, so
I hope this one helps. I'll post more as I
get further into it...

So funny that you posted this up here
today. I just got back from the doctor and
this is what he prescribed for me! He told
me that it will make cigarettes taste
disgusting and the ONLY possible side
affects is diarrhea...he did say that it
will take time for it to work completely
but that within a few days they will taste
so bad that I won't want them at all...I
am so excited. He said that it could take
anywhere for 6 months to 1 year to
completely quit without having any urges.
How is it working for you so far?

So Far- Nada Posted: 07-13-07 13:33pm
So far, nothing new. I am starting a
support group tonight (2x's a week for 4
weeks) so that should pad the chances of
kicking it. I'm hoping the pill helps, but
I'm not counting on it. I have an
extremely high tolerance to pills (most of
them anyways) so it may be awhile. I have
my fingers crossed though. Best of luck to
you- keep me informed of your progress!

Chantix.... Posted: 07-23-07 15:20pm
Just an update. I have been smoke free
since Friday (7-20-07) at 3:35 p.m. Almost
72 hrs! Yea!!!!
Now the truth- Chantix has done absolutely
nothing for me. It gives me really vivid
and detailed dreams, but thats it. No
relaxing, or bad taste, or anything. Just
gritting my teeth, avoiding my family, and
yelling at everyone the last 3 days. This
crap sucks! I know it is good for me, and
I will beat it, but it freikin sucks! I
want to kill, kill, kill!!!!
No really folks, you should quit smoking.
Just be prepared to be MAD ALL the time.
Not sometimes, when the urge hits. It hits
all day everyday. Deep breaths, candy,
gum....HA! Nothing works except sheer
will. It is hard...I know it will be worth
it. If it's not- I'm going back to it!!!

I am on week 2 of the Chantix...It hasn't
had MUCH affect on me, as far as bad taste
that was not true I don't know where the
dr came up with that one. But I can say
that I cut down from a pack or more a day
to a half a pack a day and some days the
desire is less to maybe 2 or 3 a day but I
am very stressed out to the point where i
had a bad anxiety attack so as soon as i
got out of the hospital i smoked about 8
cigarettes right then and there...not that
it helped me. Since I was in the hospital
I have been doing a little more than half
a pack and staying on the chantix, so I
guess it is working somewhat unless that
is all in my head.

I'm glad you're back. First- Chantix isn't
doing much for me. No bad taste (my Dr.
said the same thing) and the urge is still
there. I am being honest when I say that
sheer will is the only way I've made it
this far. I would like to have just one
smoke- but NO WAY! I can NEVER go back.
Second- What the anxiety attack caused
from? It may not be the best decision to
quit during times of extreme stress. That
said, some people function well under
pressure so it MAY be right for you. Stay
on the Chantix- it isn't in your head. It
is blocking the nicotine receptors in your
brain from picking up the nicotine, thus
not giving you as much pleasure when you
smoke. You can do this. Ginger and I are
the 'suppoet' group so far. You want to
join in? We would like more members. It
does help!
