I am a 23 year old female with sternum
pain. I first noticed sternum pain about 4
years ago. When my boyfriend would lay on
my chest it would hurt. It wasn't that bad
though because it only hurt when there was
pressure on it. Recently it has been
hurting all the time. It is tender to
touch from my first intercostal all the
way down to my zyphoid process. It feels
like there is pressure on it and sometimes
it feels like it is hard to breathe. It
does not hurt all the time, it comes in
spurts during the day. I have had an
endoscopy and it is not an ulcer. It does
not hurt when I exercise and I do not have
high blood pressure. I have smoked for
about 2 years and quit about 3 weeks ago.
What could be wrong with me?

Rib Tenderness Posted: 03-06-07 13:57pm
Have you heard of something called
Costochondritis it is:
is an inflammation of the junctions where
the upper ribs join with the cartilage
that holds them to the breastbone or
sternum.
It generally goes away on its own and is
not a serious thing at all. Can be caused
from a hit to the chest, i believe.
Maybe its something to look into if you
already havent!
take care

I have looked into it but I didn't know if
I needed to see a doctor about it. Do you
know if they can do anything to cure it?
It said on the internet you could take
NSAIDS for it but I can't take those
because I have an ulcer in my large
intestine.
