This is just for the people that I have
seen that all say this sort of pain. Hi my
name is Brianna and I am 20. I was
diagnosed with Biliary Colic aka: Gall
Stones at 18 but I had the pain since I
was about 16 but it got worse as I got
older. I used to wake up in the middle of
the night (usually happens at night with
me) with horrible pain under my right
ribcage that would last anywhere from 30
minutes to 5 hours. But I left it alone
because I was only getting the pains maybe
3-4 times a year when I was 16. As I got
older it started to happen more often and
finally I was crying and vomiting and I
couldn't breathe so I went to my mom
(she's an RN) She told me she thought I
may have gall stones and got me some over
the counter meds. Life went on and at 19 I
moved to Florida to go to school and be
with my fiance. One day I was standing in
the kitchen feeling horrible and I was
supposed to go to work in an hour. . i
took my temp and it was 104 and my
stomache was killing me once again in the
right side under my ribcage. I had my
fiance take me to the E.R and after 5
hours they told me I had Biliary Colic and
that I needed to stop taking birth control
because it can make it worse. They said
they wanted to do surgery and they would
keep me overnight but being as stubborn as
I am .. i refused to stay in the hospital
and they had to reluctantly release me.
They informed me if I came back with so
much as a fever I would go in for
emergency surgery and have my gall bladder
removed. They gave me two perscriptions to
try and help me and told me not to eat
spicy, fatty,or acidic foods to try and
help me as well. I always thought only
obese people got this . . I found out I
was wrong when I was diagnosed =\ It
actually runs in my family and after I was
diagnosed my mom actually went in for
emergency surgery 4 months later when she
had an attack and a stone actually got
stuck in her bile duct. (She's doing fine
now ) Anyways I
am 20 now and the attacks are more
frequent I'm having 1 a week nowadays and
I know I need the surgery badly. And yes I
am on a diet that keeps me from the foods
they specified and also things like nuts
and celery. When I have the attacks its a
sharp stabbing feeling under the right
ribcage and my back also hurts sometimes
as well not all of the time though and I
get dizzy and vomit sometimes and my
stomache feels very bloated. The pain is
so intense that most of the time I end up
in a hot bath curled in a ball crying in
pain. Heat seems to help but very
minimally but any kind of pain relief is
welcome at that point.
