I was in a car accident about 5 months
ago. over the past 5 months the doctors
have discovered that i have 3 bulging
discs, 2 of those are also Degenerative
discs. and i also have a condition called
spondylosis. I have done physical therapy,
gone to the chiropractor, and have taken
vicodin ever since. For the past few
months i have been taking at least 5
vicodin 7.5 each day. I am currently
getting spinal steroid epiderals. I have
only gotten 1 shot of the series of 3 so
far but i feel that it hasn't helped at
all. I am 21 and the doctors aren't sure
why i have degenerative discs and it may
be associated with the pain. I have been
doing an extensive workout after the shot
(for the past few days) in hopes that it
will help fix the problem. I am worried
that nothing is helping and that i may
become dependant on the vicodin. I have
tried a few times to stop taking it and i
fair off ok sometimes, but each time I
have gone to bed i have experienced
extreme pain in my back and not been able
to sleep at all. I'm not sure if this is
just the pain thats their or perhaps the
lack of medication in my body. Any
thoughts or help for this? I would love
some relief.

Social Security Disability Benfits for a Bad Back Posted: 01-24-08 10:47am
I also have a bad back. I was out of work
for the past couple of years. Your lucky
that you can at least take the pain
medication, I was unable to take anything
due to a weak stomache. Granted I have
gotten a lot better and will be returning
to work very soon. Your best bet is jus to
deal with the pain to help keep from
getting a prescription drug addiction
which many people I know personally get
from hurting there back. I aslo recommend
contacting someone if your going to be out
of work to collect social security
disability benefits. That way with your
bad back you dont develop a large amount
of debt.

don't worry to much about addiction if you
cant sleep you need something a good pain
management doc should be able to control
your pain without the negative effects of
addiction that is if you really need it.
If you really do have spondylosis then
this is an issue as well you need to read
up about it and it will need to be
managed. I doubt withdrawals are causing
your back pain it is possible but i dont
think it would be typical.
