I have had a neuroma (not Morton's -- mine
is between the joints of my second and
third toes) for nearly two years. I have
tried orthotics and they are only slightly
helpful when I am actually able to
accommodate them in my footwear. I am an
avid outdoors-person and there a number of
activities I participate in where
orthotics are out of the question.
My symptoms typically feel like I am
walking on a spiky marble that is lodged
under my skin in the affected area.
Sitting and removing weight from my foot
during a flare up does not provide relief
nor do anti-inflammatory meds, ice,
chiropractic adjustments, or massage.
I have nerve damage from surgery on my
unaffected leg that has me hesitant to try
any other remedies without hearing about
other peoples' experience. I am told that
corti-steroid/alcohol injections are a
possibility but that even if they help
(temporarily) that they can induce the
same sorts of loss of nerve feeling that
surgery often results in. I understand
that the point is not to feel the affected
nerve which is the source of pain, but I
do not want to loose feeling in other
parts of my foot or into my leg.
Anyone got any feedback for me? I just
assume find a way to get rid of this pain
altogether as I had to quit running as
soon as the problem arose and I am having
a harder time staying at my ideal/desired
weight since getting the neuroma.
