My Ear Buzzing Is Otosclerosis. Posted: 03-09-07 16:32pm
had a strange, low buzzing in only my
right ear, where my MD confirmed I have
lost some of the low sounds (this is at
least 5 years ago).
She told me I have otosclerosis, but
wasn't specific if it was a condition of
one ear or a disease I just have that will
eventually overtake the other ear.
It hasn't seemed to be getting worse over
the years--is it possible that it will not
get worse, or am I destined to go deaf and
need surgery (that's why I hate looking
stuff up online sometimes)... I can go for
weeks or months without even noticing it,
though I'm afraid to go see if it got
worse!
my MD said that the humming i hear in my
ear is the "misfiring" by the neurons (or
whatever) and when it is silent I can
actually hear the low sounds that I have
otherwise lost the ability to detect in my
right ear.
I am planning on seeing a specialist about
this again in the future but was hoping
for some good news that not all
otosclerosis patients end up with hearing
aids and surgery.
thanks for any advice!

Hi There Posted: 03-11-07 15:48pm
Im not quite sure how to advise you here.
I have the same noises etc in both my
ears. you may want to find a good
neuromuscular dentist. it could be caused
by pressure of the jaw joint on nerves
too. tmd effects hearing--I know cause i
have hearing effected by tmd. pm me if you
would like to find a neuromuscular dentist
in your area. tell them all your history
and see what they say. you may very well
not need hearing aids or surgery. keep
your chin up and let us know how you are
doing. I look forward to
hearing from you.
