Excessive Tearing And Salty Taste Posted: 03-10-07 13:46pm
First post, so be gentle...
For the past 4-6 weeks, I have had
excessive continuous tearing in my right
eye, and sometimes in my left. My eyes
are slightly itchy and red, and the
corners of my eyes are raw from the
continuous flow of tears. Initially, I
thought this was an eye infection, but I
have only had matter in my eyes once or
twice in the 4-6 weeks. I also have
allergies to just about everything
(non-food), but it dosn't seem to get
better or worse when I take medicine.
Then, 2-3 weeks ago, I started noticing
that I had a continuous salty taste in my
mouth - pretty much everything tastes like
salt (it could've been there before, I
just didn't notice it). I initially
thought this was from an antibiotic I was
taking (Doryx), but I stopped taking this
and it didn't improve. I finally drew the
connection between the tearing and the
salty taste one day when my eyes weren't
watering so bad, and I noticed that the
salty taste was also not as noticeable.
So, I'm just wondering if this is
something that I should see a doctor
about? From my searches, it seems that I
may have a clogged tear duct, but I don't
have and swelling/lumps, etc. (just more
than usual puffiness in the mornings). If
it is a clogged tear duct, will this go
away on it's own? Is there anything I can
do on my own?
I am a 33 yo male. I do take some
medications for chronic pain, allergies
and stomach problems, but have not changed
these medications recently and have not
had problems in the past.
