Mixture of Symptom..help Please..it's Destroying My Marriage Posted: 03-11-07 20:30pm
I need help badly. No one can figure out
what is going on, but is is taking a huge
toll on not only me, but my family. I am
only 23 years old. I was diagnosed 10
years ago with Hypothroidism. In my last
pregnancy (2006) the doctor said it was no
longer a problem. I have no idea how it
just went away. Well, I feel worse than
ever now, with more symptoms than ever and
have no idea what to do. I just know there
has to be an answer and treatment out
there somewhere. Here are my sypmtoms....
1. Extreme fatigue (I could and do
sometimes sleep for days at a time, which
is one reason my marriage is suffering. I
can be up for just a couple of hours and
feel exhausted.)(By the way, it isn't my
baby either, she sleeps all night and has
for awhile now.)
2. Depression, Anger, Very Very easily
Agitated, health forum all the time
3. Severe Headaches, Very sharp pains in
head
4. Abnormal weight gain, can't lose no
matter what I do. I hardly eat, I exercise
normally, but still gain. Not typically a
big person either. Have always been on the
slim side.
5. Excessive sweating
6. No sex drive whatsoever
7. Trouble falling asleep even though
totally exhausted
8. Forgetful (I have always had a superb
memory until lately)
9. Dry Skin, Hair
10. Muscle/Joint Pain
These symptoms are all very severe to me
and real. If anyone could offer any
suggestions as to what may be going on, I
would be forever grateful. I don't what my
family to have to suffer because of this
anymore.
Thanks,
Ashley

Sorry, you are not feeling well. And your
marriage is getting hurt.
Why don't you look for professional
help, such as a psichologist and rule out
that is not depression. And he may also
talk to your husband.
Of course, there is help and solutions
out there. Do not think negative.
If you do not have a health insurance
there are other resources available.
like social services, or community health
centers.
I wish I knew more about your symptoms.

I would deffinantly get a second opinion.
Overly active thyroid could change in the
matter of days and possibly stop producing
a chemical balance to your brain causing
an extreme change in your mood that can be
harmful to yourself. So with having a
problem with your thyroid in the past it
would be best if you went to see another
doctor to get a 2nd opinion and get some
help in controling the issues that you are
having now. Good Luck.

to me it seems as though your
hypothyroidism has come back worse than
ever. I suggest you go to your doctor to
be tested. All the symptoms you have are
suggesting hypothyroidism.

ever thought it could possibly be post
partum depression..you did just have a
baby and your body goes through some wild
changes..i would think all of those
symptoms could be side effects of that.

Good thing I caught this post. This
sounds to me like a clear cut case of
hypoglycemia, which was likely at the root
of the supposed hypothyroidism. Luckily,
if you have this, it's easily treated
through diet. You can PM me here or ask
questions in this thread so others can
see. What are you eating currently? Do
you remember any symptoms from when you
were younger that were strange (weird
fainting spells, flu-like symptoms sans
temperature, etc.)? Do you notice any
differences depending on what you eat (if
only for a little while)?

Ashley.
I am so sorry you are suffering so much.
Hang in there and work at it you will find
the answers you need.
I read the replies posted for you, and
most may have some benefit for you. The
symptoms you listed are very similar to
those of hypothyroid, the question is why
low thyroid function. During pregnancy
your baby can actually helps supplement
thyroid for both of your benefits. There
are a lot of questions that need answers
before you choose a path.
Have you had your TSH, T-4, free T-3
levels checked recently (when)?
How was it determined you were hypothyroid
when you were younger, what did they do
for it, how much did it help?
Are you eating any foods that harm thyroid
function, ie cabbage, broccoli, spinach,
turnips .......?
For your information thyroid hormone has a
vast number of functions within our bodies
from helping convert beta-carrotine into
active vitamin A, to helping give you a
healthy smarter baby, just to name a
couple.
There is some evidence that not all
thyroid hormone is created the same,
without boring you on the chemical
explanation, reverse T-3 may compete for
binding sites with the regular (good) T-3.
If this condition exists medical tests
would not distinguish between good and
reverse forms of T-3 thus showing normal
levels of the hormone but actually show
clinical signs of hypothyroid. Read Denis
Wilson's book (Wilson's Syndrome).
Thyroid hormone is made of Iodine a
mineral and Tyrosine an amino acid (a
building block of protein). Conceivably
low dietary levels of either could give
you similar symptoms. DO NOT SUPPLEMENT
WITH EITHER THOUGH, work with a DOCTOR on
this. Both iodine and L-tyrosine can be
dangerous under certain circumstances.
You should also be aware that your
symptoms may be indicative of Chronic
Fatigue Syndrome. Check out spam link for
some good info on that. One of the more
successful treatments for CFS includes low
physiological doses of T-3.
My suggestion for you to try for three
weeks or so is simple, safe, and
surprisingly effective. Oh ya it is also
basically free. Stay away from all
caffeine (it dehydrates you), eliminate
all soda pop. Start your day with a pinch
of sea salt on your tounge and wash it
down with a 16 oz bottle of water. Drink
at least four more bottles of water
through out the day, and prior to bed wash
a pinch of salt down with about 10 oz of
water. In addition if you avoid sugar and
high gylcemic index foods and replace them
with proteins and low glycemic index carbs
you will have a great start on getting
better.
Good luck!
Smile God loves you!
Let me know how you are doing and what
helps.

Hypothyroidism does not just go away, and
it sounds like you still have it. It could
be other things as well, but the fact that
you have a history of hypothyroidism makes
me think that it is the most likely
problem. My advice is to see another
doctor, you don't need to live this way!
Getting your thyroid checked is a simple
blood test (which you should've had
before), and if it turns out that your
thyroid is normal, there are lots of other
things that could be causing these
symptoms that you should discuss with a
doc, postpartum depression being another
that no one else has mentioned. Good luck,
I wish you the best.
