Heart Problem Or Anxiety???
Posted: 03-13-07 11:19am

Ok, let me start from the beginning.

About 2 years ago, my wife and I were doing travel nursing (she is a nurse). One day, shortly before we were moving to a new location, I went to go exercise. It was something we were wanting to start working on. I was 260 at the time, not gross overweight, but wanted to work on losing some. So going to a gym was new to me. After about 15 minutes, I decided I needed to run to town to check on a few things. I did not cool down for about 10 minutes to lower my heart rate.

After about 10 minutes in the car, I felt an uneasiness. Hard to describe, but it seemed to be coming from my chest. My heart rate was still up from the workout...and I believe that was what I was feeling at the time. Not really a hurting feeling, as much as it was an uneasy feeling. It quickly grew into something worse though. Soon afterwards, I begin feeling very nervous and sweating. I became so worried..I couldn't calm down. I wasn't able to drive anymore as I was just too scared of what was going on. Was unable to sit still...nothing would work. I didn't have a pain in my arm or anything, but I could feel my pulse racing. After about an hour pacing back and forth and trying to calm down, I was able to.

However, that was not the end of it. Soon after that (the next day), It came about again (did not excersize). It felt like I was out of control, and could not stop thinking about it. I did manage to calm down, and it did appear I was having more of an anxiety attack more than anything.

Anyway, it didn't happen again after those 2 times until about a month later. Same situation though, same feeling of impending doom. Sometime just the slit check feeling would set it off...whether it was a chest hair being pulled by an undershirt...lol..or just a mild ache that everyone gets at times that lasts a second or 2 and goes away.

So we went to a clinic to check it out one day. The checked my pulse, blood pressure, etc. Found nothing unusual. I was healthy...but need to work on my blood pressure a little with diet and exercise, but nothing drastic. They didn't do any scans though.

As of today though, I have been working on my diet a lot. Drinking lots of water and doing some excercises. However, at times, when I'm at work, or at home, I get that uneasy feeling. Sometimes I can make it go away by distracting myself. It's never gotten as bad as that first time it happenned...but I can't stop thinking about it and wondering if its related to my heart. I have noticed from time to time a slight pinch of a pain in my chest, left, center, or right at times, but nothing that lasts longer than a second to a minute. I wonder sometimes if thats a normal feeling with age (since I am reaching 30), or if it is a heart issue.

I really wish sometimes I could find out what other people with heart issues felt or experienced when it was their heart..but to this date, I have found no one.

Am I being just nervous...or is something else more at play? I have been keeping an eye on my blood pressure and heart rate and they stay about average. I have a very healthy/active sex life, and never experience any of this problem during or after sex...and its usually about 30 to 40 minutes (not boasting). My wife is pregnant now, so it's mostly me doing the work.

Am I just an anxiety case...lol?
