Suspecting Hypothyroidism
Posted: 03-13-07 14:25pm

Well im 15 year old teenager that goes to high school. I have been overweight since when I was 8 year old and been like that since. So I have been on a STRICT diet for the past 2months and I havent lost any WEIGHT. Also for the past year or so I have been feeling depressed, tiredddddd, and havent been growing for some reason. My hair is dry and thinner then a year ago and these symptoms direct to hypothyroidism.
I told my mom that I want to go get a checkup but she doesn't want to...

Anyone can help me? thanks.

Please tell your mother that she needs to take you to the doctor. All they will do is give you a blood test to see what your TSH is. The sooner you find out the better you will be. I am 58 and I had most of my thyroid taken out because of nodules, not cancer. My skin was like alligator skin, I was always tired, moody, numbness in hands. A doctor told me once, because I had moved and had a problem getting my records from another state. I was not taking any medication, because at the time I didn't have insurance. Well she told me that I was slowly killing myself. When your thyroid does not function properly, everything else is your body does not function properly. Good luck and if you want to leave me a private message feel free. Wink

That's great that you convinced your mom to take you to the doctor--those could indeed be symptoms of a thyroid problem. Good luck and please let us know!

Hi. I am currently waiting on the results of my blood tests for Hypothyroidism (I probably did spell that wrong!)
I have had many of your symptoms.
I have had relatively good weight my whole life.
Until recently. I have gained 40 pounds since December and no matter what I do, it will not go away! I think it is taunting me and I am gaining more!
I hear that the medicine they give you makes you feel 100% better, I need that!
I wish you luck! We all deserve to feel great and enjoy life!
