Teens And Sex Education? Posted: 03-13-07 15:38pm
I am very open mother, especially to my
17yr old daughter,I was wondering why
there are such limited sex education
programs in our schools.
I am all for condoms and birth
control, why is it are kids are not
properly educated,I hear how some think
anal sex is ''like birth control'',from
some teens,or that you can loose your
hymen by using tampons,or you can tell
bad/good cum by looking at it! a ''sex''
ed.teacher recently told his students the
last one!WHAT! I realize many teachers are
out of their field on some
classes,but,wow,that's a new one for
me.Why aren't teens getting the whole
story,like: MILLIONS of sperm come
out,there
are:lubricated,unlubricated,ribbed,nonribb
ed,sheepskin,latex,nonlatex
condoms,different sizes,condoms shouldn't
be left in the car year round, they break
down ,they are not fool proof 100% of the
time, but are essential for protecting ones
self from STD's. ''if I drink
juices(fruit) my cum tastes good'',''if I
blow it on her(crotch) she will NEVER get
pregnant'',''it's not rape if she said yes
then changes her mind'',and my ever
favorite,'' I masturbated several times
before we had sex,so there is no way I got
her pregnant''.
It's just MY opinion,but I would rather
see condom machines in schools, than have
kids taking risks.I also believe girls
need to be the one to have a condom in
their purse''just in case'',I hate it when
I see these young girls on TV who
INTENTIONALLY get pregnant because they
need to fill a void. Some of these young
men are not wanting to be fathers, they
just want the pleasure sex provides, and
these girls are forced into parenthood or
a really tough decision because they trust
the boy to ''pull out'',personally,I love
it when my daughter or her friends ask
questions,there is no shame in
it,knowledge is power,and sex,young or old
is part of life,I would like to do more in
my community,and help youngsters,any
advice how I could do that? and what are
the questions teens want answers for? I
REALLY wish our kids felt like they don't
need to hide or go off unprotected some
where,or that they are to scared or
embarrassed to ask -hell,I have no problem
buying condoms/KY,etc,I would love to
help-tell me how. Thank-you very much for
your time,it is appreciated!(sorry for the
long post)

well you can not get pregnant from anal
sex. nor can you get pregnant from oral
sex.
The only way to get pregnant is to get
sperm into the vagina.

This is very true.
Using tampons can rupture or stretch the
hymen

I can assure there are not sheepskin
condoms.
You may find sheep gut but I would be very
suprised if they are still being made.

what a man/boy eats and drinks does indeed
affect the flavour of his semen

make sure you really know the facts.
The sticky at the top may be found to be
very informative.

If i understand the law of gravity, what
goes up must come down,if a girl is on all
fours and semen runs to her vagina or
wipes back to front,YES she can get
pregnant,he does not 100% have to
ejaculated inside her vagina-I called my
gynecologist on that one.
as for tampons,yes,it can stretch
however,it is NOT a way girls usually
breaks her hymen-girls are saying that if
you use tampons,the 1st time doesn't
hurt-that was my point, not that it never
happens
sheepskin(gut),they are still
available,just not in local drug
stores-may be hard to find but are still
around(though you need to be 18+ to visit
such stores-my husband and I HAVE used
them)
as for the semen,it was a general
statement from a teen boy who
drinks,smokes and does drugs,I'm quite
certain that changes the taste as well
(much like garlic or bitter items)
I was passing along teen ''thoughts and
perceptions''
THAT misinformation is what my post was
in regards to,how teens often come up with
their own thoughts and mis guided
information,

yes, but it is not the act of having anal
sex that causes pregnancy.

Actually it IS one of the most common ways
in today's society. Along with
sports/gymnastics.

sheepskin and sheep gut are not the same
thing and are not interchangeable.
When dealing with teens you have to be
precise.
mistakenly using one term for another - is
what starts a lot of myths.

But the semen statement wasn't misguided -
the teen who came out with it was correct
- it does change the taste of semen.
Kids aren't stupid. Many of them know more
about sex than mom and pop to be fair.
I know you are trying to help but you
really need to make sure the information
you are passing on is correct first.

perhaps we are not understanding one
another,I realize the facts,I ask
many, many questions and get the clear
written facts from the gynecologist,I am
trying to get across what teens are saying
-using their words,do not think these are
mine,I was simply trying to express their
mis information given to them by their
''sex ed'' teacher,it is the sex ed
teachers words I should have been more
clear about,do you think with some ideas
he had presented,he himself needs to brush
up on the facts, once again I apologize for
the confusion, even my 17 yr old read these
posts and knows the information she
recieved with fellow students.I want to
help staighten this out with in the school
programs,I do not go around giving
information I know nothing about,I KNOW
you can not get pregnant from anal sex,it
was a teen boys thinking and words,I
repeated them so you could have a better
understanding of what some kids are
saying, that's what bugs me,there was not
so much as a book or pamphlet handed out,I
am with you on getting them the right
information,you'd be suprized what some
teens say-or perhaps not,I have serious
issues with this teachers view, what do you
recomend I do as a parent in regards to
the schools information-ya got to admit
looking at sperm(with the naked eye)is not
going to suggest a problem-unless it is
green or something he claims you can 100%
tell-100% seems off to me,he also
mentioned double up,and not in terms of
using more than one form of birth
control,he stated ''using 2 condoms is the
safest way''-HIS statement,don't get me
wrong,I have information (in writing) from
medical professionals,if there is
something that she doesn't understand,I
find a way for her to get it-and quick
question,do girls need permission from a
parent for birthconrtol-it was another
recent question from a teen, what is the
age requirement,or is there one? sorry for
any confusion, but when some of this was
presented to me by kids,I was about to
explode, and wrote down what was said
before it was forgotten.

I've written them for clarification of
their term.
I am still questioning the fact that they
are sheep gut.
simply because lambskin doesn't have the
stretch properties and becomes
exceptionally porus when thin layers are
shaved off (hence pointless for the
purpose of a condom).
in which case they have to be using
something other than pure lambskin if it
does indeed contain lambskin.

ok on the above - I'd be complaining to
the head teacher.
plain and simple.
my issue was some of the stuff that you
were "quoting as misinformation" actually
wasn't misinformation. that is all.
some stuff that sounds way out - really
isn't.

Speaking as a teen, I can say I was pretty
well educated when I took Sex Ed. I know a
good majority of the facts and myths. If
other Sex Ed classes were like mine, they
just get thrown in as another part of the
required Health class. Parents also had to
consent to their child being taught these
things. That could be part of the problem.
They only have so much time to teach when
there are other chapters in the Health
textbook to go over and maybe parents
should just allow their kids to know
nowadays.
