Severe Chest Pain: Heart Attack? Posted: 03-13-07 18:59pm
I have had chest pain and very high blood
pressure since October. My chest feels
heavy and I have sharp pains in chest,
back and arms. I went to the urgent care
in January and they gave me medication for
my blood pressure and referred me to a
primary physician. I have an appt. on
March 23. The pain has worsened and I am
scared that I may have a heart attack. I
have been thinking about going to the ER
but I don't want to overeact. Can anyone
tell me what these symptoms could be
linked to and if I should just wait to see
the doctor as scheduled.
High blood pressure can cause chest pain.
But heart attacks can cause severe chest
pain. Heart attacks are not typical for
people your age (29) except if you have
been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus or
dyslipoproteinemia (increased blood fats).
A heart attack is a serious, usually
life-threatening, condition. Heart attacks
can be diagnosed with ECG and blood tests
(AST, ALT, LDH, CP-MB and tropomyosin).
Blood sugar and fats should be also
checked.
