Head Tenderness - Left Side Posted: 03-16-07 20:39pm
Alright guys...
In November of 2006 I took a pretty sharp
blow to the left side of my head with
what's pretty much a bamboo stick. Since
then I have occasionally felt a sort of
tenderness or awareness in an area of the
left side of my head (middle upper left or
so.) It's pretty rare and seems to occur
once couple of months. It also causes a
bit of an uncomfortable feeling when I
move my head quickly and so forth. Nothing
else is really different. I'm afraid of it
being a chronic subdural hemotoma (one of
which nearly killed a friend of mine and
the injury which caused his was VERY
insignificant.) I'd like to get a brain
scan at some point and I plan on doing so,
but any comments? Anyone seen or
experienced something similar? I'm mostly
scared about this becoming more frequent,
not going away, becoming worse or turning
into the migraines that would be a sure
sign of a blood clot. My friend who had
his clot removed only after suffering a
TIA suffered serious migraines from August
to December, though. He was misdiagnosed
as having migraines until his grandparents
insisted (against his mother's wishes) to
take him for a brain scan AFTER HE HAD A
TIA. I also think I might just be paranoid
because of what happened to him, but I
really do believe that there is a
noticeable tenderness from time to time
around the area of impact. I've actually
noticed that it usually happens if I'm
leaning my head on hard surfaces for long
periods of time (though I'm leaning the
right side of my head.) This might be the
reason for it coming back over the last
fews hours.
Alright I've typed way too much. I have
basically no other symptoms, but I have
taken a few good knocks to the head over
the last two years or so, which is what
scares me. These would include... various
falls to the floor (varying hardness), a
fall on the leg of a metal table (back of
head, big ouchies but nothing afterward
besides a bruise) and finally the shinai
blow to the unarmored left side of my
head.
Ok cutting myself and my paranoia off,
Justin

Justin,
I am sorry that you are experiencing such
uncomfortable episodes. Have you seen a
doctor about this yet? Depending on your
insurance, do you need a referral or can
you make an appt with a specialist on your
own?
Try to not read anything more about it on
the internet..I promise that you will
drive yourself insane with all the
possibilities ! ( i know that this is much
easier said than done)
I hope you get to the bottom of things!

My Insurance... Posted: 03-17-07 18:55pm
My insurance should cover it if I can
convince my doctor to give me a
recommendation. I'm going to press the
issue when I go for my regular check-up
which is coming up relatively soon.
It's not painful, but it's just a strange
feeling that wasn't there before.
Thank you,
Justin

Honestly, any legitimate doctor will refer
you to a specialist if they are unable to
diagnose without a doubt. Just do *not*
let then sweep you under the rug. If you
feel there may be a problem or you feel it
is something that needs attention, then
you will need to be persistent that you
want it resolved.
I hope that you get to the bottom of
things. If you have any pressing concerns,
please don't hesitate to contact your
doctor.
