Q: Sharp pain under right ribcage = gallstones?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 17th, 2007
I have been having sharp pains under the right side of my ribs and right under the middle of my ribcage for about 3 weeks. The pain is not everyday, but it has happened enough to make me worry. When the pain happens, it is uncomfortable and sharp enough to cause tears. I thought it was just a stomach bug, because occasionally I would vomit or feel naseaus. I went a week without eating at night because of this feeling. At my 30 week appointment they noticed I had lost 2 pounds, and I was having the pain too. Doctor sent me to get ultrasound of gallbladder on thursday, but did not receive the fax on time to notify me on friday. Now I am anxious to know what is wrong with me, and scared another attack might happen over the weekend. Today I just feel bloated and uncomfortable, I am afraid to eat. What do you think is wrong with me? I am worried that Monday they will tell me nothing is wrong, but I know something is not right in my body. The doctor says baby is fine and strong.

Sharp pain under the right ribcage accompanied by nausea and vomiting could be due to gallstones; gallstones can be confirmed only with an ultrasound scan of the area. I know you are little anxious while waiting, but this is the proper procedure.
