Is spotting normal after delivery? Posted: 03-18-07 08:52am
AF after birth..very graphic question...?
I had my first child Jan 18th and I still
havent had my AF yet. I took a preg test
at the dr it was negative they said
spotting was normal and my AF would start
on its own between weeks to months!!! I am
bottle feeding since day two just so you
know. But my question is I had spotting
here and there nothing regular the last
few weeks. Now I had spotting alittle
everyday or close to it for the last week
but this morning was alittle different. I
spotted the normal light pink when I went
to the bathroom once a dayfor almost the
past week then once I had alittle darker
twice when I went to the bathroom the one
day then it was gone again. I just went to
the bathroom and it was pink/brownish with
alot of mucus then nothing but alittle
drop of pink blood the next time. I hope
you could follow that and understand it.
Is this normal?? Is my period coming? Or
what the heck is going on??? Can anyone
help??

Women who breastfeed their babies develop
lactation amenorrhea in 80% of all cases.
This means that when breastfeeding, these
women do not menstruate for several
months. Women who bottle feed their babies
(don’t breastfeed) normally re-establish
their regular periods in the first 6 weeks
after delivery.
During the first 3 weeks after delivery,
women experience a vaginal discharge which
can bloody during the first 10 days.
In your case, you are still experiencing
bloody vaginal discharge, or spotting, 2
months after delivery. It doesn’t seem
normal so you can request an examination
and follow up with your gynecologist.
