Medication For Stress & Anxiety Posted: 03-21-07 03:06am
I have been suffering from mental stress
and a friend of mine suggested
“prozac”. Does anyone have information
on prozac for stress relief?

Yeah, I used prozac for a year or so - It
helped but my husband recommended a
natural alternative - currently I'm using
Theramood - The Stress Relief Patch. I
feel much better- it works just as well as
any of the drugs I used in the past - but
it’s safe.

I also agree, I recommend trying a natural
supplement first before deciding to go on
medicaton, especially with anti-anxiety
medication. First thing you might want to
try is something like Sam-E or perhaps
5-Htp. There are also a number of herbs
that can help.

St. Johns Wort is considered a weak SSRI
meaning it increases the amoutn of
seratonin in your brain. This helps with
minor depression.
Kava is a mild sedative and calms your
central nervous system and can be very
helpful with anxiety.
Valerian and Melatonin can really help you
get a good nights sleep.
5-HTP actually increase the amino acid
tryptophan in your blood which leads to an
increase in seratonin in your brain. Also
an antidepressant of sorts. You can
actually buy the real trytophan in its raw
form and it is probably better than 5-HTP
because it loses some of its power in
metabolism.
GABA is another amino acid that will help
with anxiety and works as a mild sedative
as well.
SAMe is also an amino acid that helps with
anxiety and depression
All of these are worth a try, however,
don't expect a large change immediately
and don't expect this to cure major
depression or panic dissorder with or
without agoraphobia. These may help minor
anxiet and depression or at least get you
to a point where you are comfortable.
Eating well, exercise, and avoiding all
drugs including alcohol, nicotine and
especially caffeine. This will help as
well.
Meditation is like CBT on steroids, so
look into that as well.
