One Year Old Son's Broken Arm Posted: 03-21-07 10:51am
Hello I am Riyasa from Sri Lanka. I have
two children 6 yearrs old daughter and one
year old son. I wish to let you know of an
incident which broke my son's arm bone. I
was about to get ready to go to my
daughter's school to collect her when I
gave my son to the babysitter, after a
minute he started crying so without
getting ready to go I came and carried him
and soothed him thinking that he was
crying because I gave him to her, but he
cried for one hour and he slept
afterwards, then after he woke he started
crying and several minutes later I noticed
a swelling on his left arm and also he did
not move it like he used to, so I
suspected something and asked the
babysitter but she said he just started
crying then I took him to the doctor ,
they took Xray of his arm, showing that
his bone was broken , then he was given
anaesthesia several hours later and they
put this heavy plaster. I have to keep him
with the plaster till march 21st. Till his
bone grows back to it's normal self.
OH PLEASE SOMEONE HELP! I JUST GOT BACK
FROM THE HOSPITAL REMOVING THE PLASTER
FROM MY SON'S ARM. THE ARM LOOKS SWOLLEN
AND ALTTLE BENT THE SHAPE OF THE ARM IS
ALITTLE ABNORMAL. THE DOC SAID IT BECAUSE
IT IS SWOLLEN, BUT HE ASKED ME TO TAKE THE
XRAY AND SHOW IT TO HIM TOMORROW. I TOOK
THE XRAY BUT I THINK THAT HIS ARM IS
ALITTLE BENT. I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH THE
DOCTOCR'S WORK. OH I AM SO WORRIED. I CAN
EVEN SEND YOU THE XRAY WHICH I TOOK AFTER
REMOVING THE PLASTER. IF ANYONE KNOW HOW I
CAN GET HELP ONLINE I MEAN ANYONE WHOM I
CAN SEND THE XRAY PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
YOU SEE I TOOK THE XRAY TO ANOTHER DOCTOR
NOW IT IS LATE HERE IN THE NIGHT HE TOLD
ME THAT THE OTHER DOCTOR COULD HAVE DONE
IT A LITTLE BETTER. PLEASE SOMEONE WHO
KNOWS ABOUT THIS HELP.

I think you should see a better doctor. I
dont know about the particular fracture to
comment much further, but if the brake
occured around the growth plate then i
would have imagined an operation would
have been needed the
probelm with braking a bone on an infant
is that the bones are growing, therefore
if the brake is bad enough they have to
make sure it is put into place properly,
which plaster itself doesnt do. If the
doctor did indeed make a mistake, the
abnormality will only worsen, see someone
else!

I agree with the past post. Also, are you
sure that it looks like the actual bone is
bent? When you break a bone you obviously
do not use the muscles around it for a
period of time and they can lose a bit of
strength, making the arm look smaller.
Although, considering he is only a year
old, it is probably a good idea to have it
looked at by another doctor.
