Needles!!!
Posted: 03-21-07 16:25pm

Well, I am finally going to the doctor tomorrow, but there's one slight hitch.....they told me straight up that they are doing blood work, and I have a serious issue with shots. I was shaking and close to tears about a month ago when they tested my iron with the little poking-your-finger thing. (that was after I completely refused to do it the first time.) I don't know why it is. I'm better with like piercings, so far as I will still have them done and not refuse (I have my bellybutton, had my cartilage done 3 different times, and also have a vertical clit hood. Pretty sure it's not the pain lol) I still freak out, but not nearly as bad. I just can't handle something poking me like that. I know it has to be done, and I should just suck it up, but that is a hell of a lot easier said than done. Has anybody else had this issue? How did you get through it? I'm scared to death about tomorrow..... Crying
or Very sad

I am exactly the same as you! I have my lip, belly button and ears x3 pierced but when it comes to an injection i'm terrified. The way i dealt with it was by all the time keep thinking that i'm doing this for my baby to make sure she's ok etc. ALso i took my boyfriend with me to hold my hand lol. Now i've got my next set of bloods in two weeks and i'm not really bothered about them

Don't look. Turn your head as far away as you can and breathe deeply in and out. Slow, controlled breaths. A lot of the times they'll ask you "are you okay?" to make sure you're not freaking out. Just say "mm hmm" and continue your breathing. The breathing will keep you calm.

I have a major needle phobia, and doing this kept me from freaking out.

I have always thought that is was kinda cool to see the vial fill with blood. I think that I am strange or something. My sister almost faints every time that they take her blood but she has gotten better about it. She says that if she just looks away and imagines that it is just a pin pricking her (she's a seamstress) or something she is fine.

i don't mind needles either, i don't even get nervous.. i look away at first just because i don't really like seeing it go inside of my skin lol but then i watch and it's no big deal, it is cool seeing it fill up with blood. she was telling me one time about this lady who thought they were done and she pulled her arm back and the blood started spraying lol kind of weird.

You're not alone.

I have a serious phobia of needles.

Because of this, I refused an .i.v, and an epidural for the birth of my daughter.

The pain of birth, is nothing compared to the pain of a needle(in my eyes).

It's not *just* the needle. It's the surroundings. The smell of the hospital, the coldness.

Buuuut, Ijust got my daughters name tatted on the top of my foot. Make sense? nope.

It's a phobia that I can't control.
