I realise there are many threads like
this, but I was hoping someone could maybe
put my mind to rest on a couple of
symptoms.
I'll speed things up to date, but
basically I have been diagnosed with tmj
for 4 years.
I've tried absolutely everything bar
surgery.
I have constant tingling/pins and needles
sensation around temples and forehead...is
this a symptom? It freaks me out.
When I put my finger in my ear gently it
feels like something is detached...I can
pop something...not in an invasive way
just to be clear, with little to no
exertion i can do this...any ideas? I
have constant grating noises and the
difference between my left and right tmj
is night and day.
I also have a pressure in my face, head,
throat and nose which can strangely be
relieved somewhat by touching my
face/head, but then comes straight back
again...Any thoughts?
This message seems a bit rushed and
heartless (sorry ),
I had actually written out a big friendly
story only to send and for an error to
occur Lesson learned
'copy' just incase
Just looking for some thoughts on the
above symptoms so i know if im definitely
seeing the right people. Great forum by
the way, its good to know im not alone and
some of the information is excellent, even
if I havent found relief for myself as of
yet.
Thank You

Hi Minus,
Sorry you lost your long posting but glad
that you still posted. And welcome. Your
symptoms are the same as mine and other
TMJ sufferers. I've had TMJ 27 years but
it is currently being managed (and
thankfully, no surgery).
The pop you are feeling is usually the
disc (which is cartilage) rubbing against
bone or tendons. It often means that the
disc is not stable or in position. You
should try and not pop as much as possible
as it will cause damage to the joint (my
problem). The grating or I say,
"scrunching" feeling usually means that
osteoarthritis has set in. Not always
though. Have you had an MRI? They can
determine that with an MRI. The MRI can
also show if your disc is trapped out of
joint.
You are very normal if your joints seem
totally different. Usually the actual
muscular problem and pain is caused by the
tightness of the joint that doesn't hurt.
Again I have to disclaim, not always.
Many if not most TMJ patients are so alike
but yet so different. I know, a big
conflict here. That's one of the reasons
why TMJ is so very difficult to treat.
What works for me, might not work for
you.
I am going to suggest that you look at
stress and posture. After 25 years,
changing my lifestyle so I have less
stress and watching my posture closely
while I am on the computer has made a big
difference for me. I also highly
recommend regular physical or massage
therapy by a therapist trained in TMJ
disorders.
You sound like a "typical" TMJ sufferer if
there is such a person. Pressing your
hand on your forehead is a big thing with
me also. It takes the pain away but as
soon as the hand is removed, pain. I hope
you will share more about what you have
been experiencing and the treatments that
you've tried. We are so different as I
said, but frequently what other sufferers
do can help. Keep an open mind (and I
must agree with you to try and keep
surgery at bay as long as possible.)
Hope to hear from you. Take care and...
God bless...
Carol

Hey Minus. Isn't it great here??!!! I
feel like I've found a home.
I had many of the same symptoms you do
also. From what I've experienced myself
and read, I wouldn't be surprised at any
of the symptoms that are related to TMJ.
I have been told by my dentist that being
so out of alignment can affect you right
down to your feet. I'm also now undergoing
all sorts of tests on my sinuses because
they are so plugged and I also feel
pressure in my nose on one side. Please
don't lose hope. I don't have as much
experience as others here, however if I
can do anything to help, I would be glad
to.
Take care,
Pam
