You may consider using birth control pills
at any time. Women start birth control
pills on the first day of their periods.
Birth control pills are the most efficient
contraceptive method if and when used
properly. Proper use means taking one pill
EVERY DAY!
Side effects of birth control pills
include: Abdominal cramping or bloating;
acne; breast pain; tenderness, or
swelling; dizziness; nausea; swelling
of ankles and feet; unusual tiredness or
weakness; vomiting; brown, blotchy spots
on exposed skin; gain or loss of body or
facial hair; increased or decreased
interest in sexual intercourse; increased
sensitivity of skin to sunlight; weight
gain or loss. Most of these side effects
are either tolerable or temporary.
The most dangerous side effect of birth
control pills is an increase in vein blood
clotting that can manifest with deep vein
thrombosis and thromboembolia. The risk
for this side effect is much more likely
for women who smoke cigarettes.
