Ladies, Could Someone Clarify a Few Things For Me? Posted: 03-23-07 17:49pm
Hi ladies, DH and I have just had our
first cycle of ttc. I went off bcp at the
end of February. The pill has messed with
my cycle and I had a 9 day lp.
I read on one of the posts, sorry I can't
remember which one, that someone is
wanting/going to take Clomid on their 2nd
cycle of ttc. I have only read a little
bit of info on this,....Clomid is for
encouraging ovulation? Is that right? Does
it do anything for the luteal phase
though? If no, what is recommended to
those having trouble with the lp?
BTW I didn't realize that you could get
this medication before ttc for atleast 6
months to 1 year.
Are there any side-effects with these
drugs for either mother or baby?

Oh, I almost forgot to ask about pre-seed.
What is this, and is it readily available
in stores?

Preseed is a sperm friendly personal
lubricant. It is ph balanced so that it
help promote a healthy environment for
sperm to survive. Your average personal
lubricant can make a hostile environment
for sperm. Thus lessening your number of
spermies.

Hi Posted: 03-24-07 00:33am
I am starting my 3rd month of Clomid.
My doctor told me that Clomid is a very
potent and somewhat complicated
medication. It is capable of reacting with
all of the tissues in the body that have
estrogen receptors.
These tissues include hypothalamus,
pituitary, ovary, endometrium, vagina, and
cervix. Clomid influences the way that the
four hormones required for ovulation,
GnRH, FSH, LH and estradiol, relate and
interrelate. While not completely
understood yet of the mechanisms by which
this drug works, in essence it appears
that Clomid fools the body into believing
that the estrogen level is low. This
altered feedback information causes the
hypothalamus (an area of the brain) to
make and release more gonadotropin
releasing hormone (GnRH) which in turn
causes the pituitary to make and release
more FSH and LH.
More follicle stimulating hormone and more
luteinizing hormone should result in the
release of one or more mature eggs -
ovulation.
So, basically, I didn't have a problem
with my luteal phase, because of my past 2
m/c's, he wanted me to have more fertile
eggs during my ovulation.
It does have side effects but they are
mild.
Twin pregnancies may occur in as many as
5% of the women who use Clomid. Triplet
pregnancies are far more rare. Other
reported adverse effects include ovarian
enlargement 13.6%,Vasomotor Flushes 10.4%,
abdominal or pelvic discomfort, distention
or bloating 5.5%, nausea and vomiting
2.2%, breast discomfort 2.1%, visual
symptoms (blurred vision, lights,
floaters, waves, unspecified visual
complaints, photophobia, diplopia,
scotoma, etc.) 1.5%, headache 1.3% and
abnormal uterine bleeding (intermenstrual
spotting, menorrhagia)1.3%. Although there
has been much talk about the relationship
of clomiphene (and other fertility drugs)
to ovarian cancer the vast majority of the
evidence now seems to point at infertility
itself, rather than the use of fertility
drugs as being the primary explanation for
the slightly increased incidence of
reproductive cancers in the infertility
population. Clomid has been used to induce
ovulation for more that thirty years.
There is not any evidence that it causes
an increase in congenital abnormalities or
birth defects in children. It is not
associated with an increase in premature
labor or in other complications of
pregnancy
Hope all that helps....
Good luck and lots of baby dust your way.

Thank You Negar! Posted: 03-24-07 08:55am
I searched for more info on Clomid late
last night too. I read that chances of
conceiving within 3-6 months are very
high. You must be so excited!
I read that they will start at 50mg and
increase as needed. In your 3 months have
they changed the dose? Have you had any
side-effects?

Hello Again Posted: 03-24-07 21:15pm
My doctor gave me 50mg and he will check
in with me after 3 months. The side
effects are different for everyone, but
mine so far have been anxiety, emotional,
painful ovulations. Being anxious and
emotional are two very familar feelings
for me though
Painful ovulations are very new. That is
about it though... Hope that helps. If
I have not succeeded by the end of this
month, my doctor will probably go ahead
with IUI, since I am 35 already.

Hi Girls Posted: 03-25-07 12:21pm
Hi there
I'm on my first round of clomid. I'm now
on CD 17. I didn't have any side effects
at all. This is our 20th month ttc. My RE
started me off on 100mg of clomid right
away....not sure why. I have
endometriosis...maybe that's it?
If it doesn't work this month, I'm going
in for an IUI next month. Hopefully it
won't come to that, as we just got back
from Mexico yesterday, and it was an
amazing week of r&r. I didn't temp at
all, we just bd'd every moring the whole
week! Wow....quite a feat for dh
Negar, I'm wondering, did you notice that
your Opk strips showed a positive for more
than one day? I'm wondering if clomid
influences the results? I use the strips
from www.earlypregnancytests.co
m (cheap like borsht).
I have no idea when I ovulated because the
strip is still showing a dark line.
What do you think?
Thanks!

Hi Cpr Posted: 03-25-07 12:40pm
One of the reasons he started me off on
50mg, is because previously on my ttc
attemps I got pregnant twice within 2
months...m/c's though...
As far as ovulation tests, you should go
with clear blue happy faces. Since your
doc has you on clomid and then iui, you
don't want to take chances. having two
days of positives on OPK: No, but that
could happen if you catch it in the
begining the first day and then the end
the second day...
Hey, maybe you wont need IUI after all.
It sounds like it was a wonderful
vacation...

Yes, we had a great time. Sad to be home
again...we were in Playa Del Carmen. The
water was so warm and the most amazing
blue I've ever seen. It was just what I
needed after a rough year. Thank god for
preseed, I tell ya, it really does come in
handy. I know that the clomid produced
hostile cm for me...for the first time
ever I had loads of cm, but not the
right/fertile kind, so I'm hoping the
preseed balanced things out a bit.
Sorry to hear about your previous m/c's.
That is really sad. I can't even imagine
after trying so hard, to get a bfp and to
be so happy and then so sad - so soon.
Does your Dr think that the clomid with
help it 'stick' better? That would be
interesting to know....
Anyway, good luck this month! Hopefully
clomid will answer both our prayers!

Thank you, and plenty of baby dust your
way.
Clomid does not help with sticking, it
should speed up the process. I have
something else to take if I get pregnant
to help with the sticking.
