Vaginal Pain
Posted: 03-23-07 22:02pm

About 8 months ago, I started experiencing a dull ache in my vagina--mostly with tampon use. The issue escalated to the point where, over time, I had to switch brands of tampons until I began using the super slim ones and intercourse had become too painful to attempt.

I saw my doctor about 3 weeks ago who told me that 'things look red'. She gave me Doxycycline (which is for chlamydia and syphillus) and hydrocortisone (1%). She did not tell me anything more (although, silly me, I did not ask), but advised that I should not avoid intercourse (which makes me think that it was not chlamydia or syphillus)

I went through the medication as directed and my last period wasn't too terrible with removing tampons, but intercourse is still painful. It almost feels like my fiancee's penis is hitting my cervix, but only when he has barely began to penetrate me. Also, fingering is out of the question.

Any ideas?

There are a lot of things that can cause pain during sex. Good for you going to the doctor about it. If I were you, I would probably go back to the doctor and tell her that the meds did not completely take care of the problem. Then at least, your doctor might take another look at you, tell you more, or give you another dose of the meds.

Is there any sort of abnormal discharge? This sounds a little like a yeast infection to me, especially if the meds she perscribed you didn't work. If this has gone on for 8 whole months nonstop, it probably isn't syphilis. I think most of the time syphilis is a come and go type of thing. You'll definately want to go back to the doctor though. The symptoms you're experiencing are certainly no fun.
