Finn's 1st Taste of Cereal! (+random Pics)
Posted: 03-24-07 18:04pm

finn tried cereal for the first time today. he *loved* it! he'd never eaten from a spoon before yet he knew just what to do, probably because he watched me eat pudding all the time.

so when can i start giving him veggies? i'm sure he's going to love them.

here he is enjoying his meal-

chewing on his fingers because i wasn't fast enough-

what do you mean it's gone?!?!

i give up.

random pics---

wouldn't be complete without a hammy face pic-

happy boy!

and his new thing is gnawing on anything he can get his mouth on-

he makes the funniest face when he does this-

'sup?

just a little taste...

mmm!

chomp chomp!

the end.

Aww yay for him liking the cereal. I think you can give him veggies now, he's such a big boy and I'm sure the doctor would give the go ahead. You might wanna make sure though.. it's up to you.

He's such a cutie Mr.

Aww .I'm glad .Finn like his cereal! When I started .Kaylee on her cereal we waited a few weeks until she was used to it before we tried veggies but it's all up to you! .Kaylee gets awful belly aches everytime I try veggies with her so we're still going to wait a while yet but if you think he's ready, .I'd go ahead & try it! I wanna see some messy veggy face pictures Laughing

thanks girls!

we got the go ahead for starting solids the other day at his appointment, i just don't remember what he said about when to start veggies. i'm assuming the cereal is just to get them used to eating, right? he knew exactly what he was doing with the cereal so maybe i'll try some carrots tomorrow. i hope they don't bother his tummy!

i did see the article, i just thought rice cereal would be a good thing to start off with since he's never tasted anything but formula before. i just wanted to get him used to the consistency and whatnot. he did great though so i think i'm going to give him some carrots tomorrow.

awww, I'm glad he likes cereal! I would think you can start veggies soon, cereal is basically their "practice" food for their fruits and veggies. He's sooooo cute!

I don't think there is any specific order that you have to feed your baby in, but I think they advise waiting a few days in between introducing new foods so that if a food allergy/sensitivity pops up, it will be easier to identify which one/ones cause your baby problems...easier to identify a problem food if there's never been a reaction to one, then when a new one is introduced there is tummy ache or discomfort..then that one can be put on hold for a while and tried again later...that said..I never had any problems with foods that I fed my babies..I started with the cereals (mildest) first, then veggies, then fruits...but again, there are no set in stone rules about all that...for the most part, I avoided store bought foods...steamed, pureed and froze just about everything in ice cube trays, then defrosted a cube or two as needed...it was just more of a personal choice, but I enjoyed doing it and it actually worked out to be a whole lot less expensive (and my kids had foods they wouldn't have tried otherwise)...good luck with the feeding..he really seemed to enjoy the cereal....which brings to mind...I have a picture of my firstborn covered in his first "popsicle"..plain yogurt mixed with grape juice and frozen in those popsicle trays they sell in dollar stores..he LOVED it!!! haha...a good, healthy treat for a VERY picky eater..haha..anyway, good luck...

due to the way taste buds develop *most* babies (not all by a long shot) will prefer orange/yellow veggies and fruits first.

green veggies and fruits are likely to taste bitter to young babies and children.

this taste bud development is often the reason why kids suddenly hate food they have previous liked Wink
