Q: Conception after delivery & birth control
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 26th, 2007
I had my 6 week Post-partum appointment 2 weeks ago and all was fine. They gave me a pregnancy test to make sure I wasnt pregnant again so I could start birth control pills but me and my hubby want to try to have another baby after 6 months when my body heals so my question is. I havent gotten my period since his birth in Jan ( which they said was normal up to 6 months or longer even though I DONT breastfeed) Should I take the pills to get my body back on track and to get my period back then stop when we reach the 5 month mark to start trying again or just use condoms since its now only about 3 months away anyways? Would there be any issues if I did that, too?

A woman usually needs a few months to establish full fertility after delivery. That’s why you haven’t gotten your period yet. It seems that there is no reason take birth control pills if you want to conceive again. Birth control pills won’t “get your body back on track”. Your body will establish its full reproductive functions by itself in time.
