Q: TTC: how soon do tests show pregnancy?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 27th, 2007
My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 6 months, this is the first month I have ever experienced symptoms, They are as follows: Nausea, Headache, heaviness of breast, extreme sensitivity of breast, darkening of areolas, white discharge, and very visible veins in my breast. 8 days after ovulation I experienced menstrual like cramps for two days, which I believe was implantation cramps
Is it possible I could be pregnant and how soon will the pregnancy hormone be detectable?

The symptoms you’ve described are very subjective and nonspecific and cannot be considered as reliable signs of pregnancy. A lack of an expected menstrual period is the fist serious sign of pregnancy, although it does not always indicate pregnancy. Sometimes a missed period could indicate other medical conditions which should be checked by a gynecologist. The only secure sign of pregnancy is a positive pregnancy test. Blood pregnancy tests are more sensitive than urine-based tests. Blood tests can show positive results 5 days before an expected period date or 10 days after ovulation and possible conception. You can do a home pregnancy test if your period is late as the first step and follow up with your gynecologist.
