He Is Here!

I know I am a little late in posting but this past saturday (March 24) I had my little boy at 8:01 am. I was only in labor from start to finish for 4 hours. My water broke at 4 am I imediantly went into hard core labor and by 7:45 I was fully dilated and I only pushed for 15 minutes.

I named him Eli, he weighed 9 lbs even and was 21 3/4 inches long. Everyone was amazed that he was that big cause im little.

He has been in the hospital and gets to come home saturday. He has a infection b/c I was group B strep positive and they didn't get me my antibiotics into quick enough before he was born. So he is in the special care nursery. He was also tongue tied and we got that fixed so now he can eat. has anyone ever heard of that?

I have been pumping my breast for him but I am giving it to him in a bottle instead of nursing, has anyone ever done that?

I am so nervous to bring him home, he seems so fragile and I am kind of overwhelmed with everything.

If anyone has any advice or anything i would appreciate it b/c I am so nervous I am going to do something wrong

congrats, .kezia!!

wow, you got lucky with your labor, eh? mine was 27 hours long & i pushed for 3 hours! Shocked

.gabe had to be in the .n.i.c.u for a week because he had a temp when he was born & had trouble breathing & stuff. he's home now, & i was super nervous to bring him home, but we're doing just fine. the first night is the most nervous you'll be! it'll get a lot smoother from there on out.

gabe won't take my nipple, so i pump & give him my milk in bottles. it isn't bad at all, & i like it because .chris can bond with him by feeding him, too.

it's natural to be nervous! you're going to do fine! just trust your instincts.

congrats on the new little one. he was really big though...9lbs? wow!!! Is it hard leaving him there? I sure would hate it.

My cousin was tongue tied and they did the little opp....she was fine after that.

i breast fed for amelia for like ever...but then i had to pump inbetween feedings becaused i over produced....i give her her cereal mixed with breast milk still and i give her breast milk and formula half and half....but i am almost completely out now.... Sad

you are going to do stuff wrong Wink (not really but sorta.), we all do, but you learn...what is right for me and my family may not be right for yours...so just take it easy and get some rest while he is in there....i know its hard so that you are ready for him to come home.

good luck and i cant' wait to see pics.

Congrats on your little one!!!!

*Just wanted to let you guys know that pumping and bottlefeeding instead of just breastfeeding is what caused my milk supply to prematurely dry up. by the time i realized what was going on (talked to a lactation consultant) i couldn't get him to accept my breast again so that i could increase my milk supply and no amount of pumping brought it back. be careful with the pumping. i don't want what happened to me to happen to anyone else.

Congrats!! Can't wait to see some pictures! What does tongue tied mean, I've never heard of it. Way to go pumping! If he won't take the breast thats the next best thing, atleast he'd getting breast milk. I too have been pumping exclusively for about six weeks. He simple wouldn't latch on. I haven't had really any problems with it except for recently and I felt like I was barely able to keep up with his demand. I contacted the La Leche League and the doctor and they gave me lots of advice. If you ever start to feel a decrease, get on top of it soon, it happens often when your pumping especially between 4-6 weeks. If you supply does decrease you should try pumping every 1-2 hours that your available for about 2-3 days. This will really help increase your supply. Also, my son won't latch on but he does with a nipple shield. They are supposed to be used temporarily and for us they seem to make a mess because the milk comes out to fast B.U.T. it has helped us to sit down a few times a day and try to nurse this way. They babies sucking is more effective then any pump so even if you have to give him a bottle later try this just to get your supply revved up. I know you are not to thispoint yet, but those are just some tips since I've recently went through this I'd love to help all those before they have any problems! If any one else needs advice on exclusively pumping I'd be more then happy to help! I've gained alot of inforormation on it lately!

I am going to get some pics up as soon as I bring him home saturday hopefully.

Tongue tied is where that little flap of skin that holds the tongue to the bottom of the mouth is too short and they can't stick their tongue out far enough so the doctor clips its.

Between going to school and going back to work in a few weeks and moving I am scared I am not going to be able to keep up with the pumping. Cause it takes a while to feed him then I have to pump for at least 30 minutes and I will never be able to work and pump and all that. I have been thinking about pumping for about another 6 weeks until I go back to the dr. for my postpartum checkup and then start giving him formula. Has anyone ever done that?

One more question....How much do newborns typically eat? He has been eating roughly about 2 ounces but yesterday one time when the nursery feed him he ate almost 3 ounces so how do I know how much to feed him???

I couldn't believe that he weighed 9 lbs at birth. He is already having to wear size 1 diapers because newborn don't fit and so half his clothes don't fit. I had already bought and recieved from people tons of newborn diapers and clothes so I am going to take them to the pregnancy crisis center so that they can give the young girls the stuff that need help.

Hey! Brayden at 2 ounces until about 5 weeks. Now he eats three at night and between 2-3 during the day. The doctor told us at his two weeks that he should be eating 1.5-2 ounces and that by about 4 weeks he should have a growth spurt and probably go up to 3 ounces. Just pay attention to your baby he'll tell you when he's hungry!
