Chronic Pancreatitis

Hey everyone,
I wanted to post my experiences and see if it rings true for anyone else.
In Oct. of last year I had severe cramping and passed bloody stools. Went to the doctor found the bleeding was from ischemic colitis and also found diverticulitis, stayed in hospital for 5 days. Still no relief, still had pain in stomach. So they started testing my gallbladder all of those test came back normal; but the entire time my doctor was telling me I had chronic pancreatitis as per blood work. So, they removed the gallbladder, once removed it was diseased, but still no relief. Blood work still showed chronic pancreatits. The pain is center of stomach just below rib cage and when it hits, wow it is very painful. I would compare it in intensity to labor pains, it will take your breath away. Anyway at this point Dr. is sending my to a pancreas specialist to have a EUS AND ERCP procedures done. Anyone here ever been through this? I am still curious about just why did my digestive system go hey wire all at one time. Like I previously stated this has been on going since Oct. of last year. I have dirrhea if not dirrhea then constipated from all the pain meds. It's a vicious cycle.

I am 39 years old, other medical conditions to consider are I have regurgatation in all of my heart valves moderate in aortic, mild in the others. Also have arachnoid cyst in brain, constant headaches from this. I am tired all the time, can't sleep which is really becoming a problem.

Thanks for listening.

HI I too have been battling chronic pancreatitius for the last year. THe eus and ercp should do the trick to locate the problem. First have you had a HYDA scan with infraction "following the sphinter if odo protocol. Of not mention it too your doctor you should have this before either eus or erco. What "sphincter of odi" is, is a major billary tube that is connected between the gol bladder and pancreas ( yes you still have it after removel) I thi sphicter has spasm and can close too much and cause the bck up of bile and likely cause pancreatitus. This disease and treatable when the ercp is performed by making a small incision. Or yo could have something called pancreas devisum this congenital and also what I had. hey found it with something called a MRCP it is a special MRi with contrast. THey confirmed and treated with a ERCp in which this is also malformed bile duct an incision was made to widen the are inwhich bile passes. However like you I have had many attacks of the pancreas and have caused damage. Now my pancreas function test came back abnormal so I have to take enzymes to help with digestion. Anyway long story but I hope it helps let me know. PS read some forums of spincter of odi.
