Would This Be a Good Idea? Posted: 03-29-07 08:29am
I really want .alyvia to at least give her
sippy cup a try. As it stands now, she
gets mad at me when I try to pour a bit of
water into her mouth from the spout. (.i'm
not trying to drown my child - .i'm trying
to show her that yummy stuff to drink
comes out of there!)
.What do you girls think about maybe
putting a little bit of sugar in with the
water? Maybe she'll be more open to
learning to use the cup if there's
something sweet coming out?
Ooh, and while .i'm at it. Alyvia
absolutely hates her stage 1 foods and
.i'm about ready to give up on them. But
she seems interested in the foods we eat.
Should I wait until she has teeth to give
her small bites? When is a good time to
start finger foods?
Thanks in advance!

my personal opinions only...
put some boobie milk in the sippy cup.
throw away all stage X baby foods - save
your self a fortune and just mush up/sieve
what you eat.
she'll probably only have a spoonful or
two of your foods (just don't add salt,
etc) and so you don't really need to cook
extra.
as she gets older/teeth then mush it a bit
less and less.
most fruits and veggies can be microwaved
or boiled then mushed up and frozen in
icecube trays - just defrost the required
number of cubes.
(I'm not going to go into the blah blah of
checking temps and stuff - because you
know all that).
even meats can be successfully mushed up
(if you eat them that is), pasta if
slightly over cooked can be mushed up
nicely.
ah go to town - if you eat it mush it and
share lol

rather than putting sugar in the water,
how about a splash of juice?
and i agree with kia, you can give her
whatever you're eating (within reason, of
course) if you mash it up really well.

Thanks girls.
I can't really pump my milk out, though.
My boobs get pump shy. but
maybe .i'll try juice. What kind of juice
do you think I should try?
.i'll definitely try her on some
overcooked mushy pasta today. I bet she'll
like it!
white grape juice is the most gentle on
the stomach, and i have also done pear
juice. apple is known to be harsh, and
caused my son diarhea. (these are all
from the baby section, and i dilute it
with half water)
and i agree, there are plenty of people
that never even do jarred food, they just
mash up what they eat. my son prefers
table food over his baby food.

I can do it in the shower... .i think the
heat helps me let down. What I could
probably do is nurse her on one side - and
the other side will let down on its own
and I can hand-express from there.
She looooves grapes I peel the skin off
and give her tiny pieces of grape flesh
and she loves it! Maybe we'll try pasta
and grapes for lunch! And .i'll ask her
daddy to pick up some white grape juice on
his way home.

i cant really help too much i just wanted
to ask what kind of sippy are you using?
ive known quite a few kids who dont really
like the hard spout ones at first, ive
sucessfully gotten a few kids i take care
of to switch from bottle to sippy by using
a soft spout one, its more like a bottle
nipple but its a sippy cup, then progress
to the hard spouts so they get use to the
shape and everything then they get use to
the hardness or whatever
the best one ive found is the nuby, ill
see if i can find i picture for you, i
know ive gotten 2 different kids to switch
using that thing, it was like a godsend
with one of them lol
everyone else had great ideas though
i just needed to share cause im all rambly
today lol

We had to do this with my stepdaughter
too. She absolutely hated the hard
spouted sippy cups. We found the nuby
ones and she took to them right away.
Then, we had no choice but to switch her
completely to the hard spouted cups. She
got to where she would chew the spouts off
of the nuby ones.

don't think she is ready for meats...and i
take out 'her' food first before is spice
it up and set it aside to cool....then i
get to mushing. she loves it.
