Extended Breastfeeding
Posted: 03-29-07 11:19am

here's a short documentary style video on extended breastfeeding-

http://www.youtube.co m/watch?v=uHRyRCHuQ7g (if the link doesn't work it should look like this, minus the periods- all lowercase and then u.h.ry.r.c.hu.q7g)

i just found this to be extremely bizarre.

what is your opinion on this?

I think breastfeeding gets weird once the kid can ask for it. That film was very strange.. the fact that the children name their mum's boobs and "touch them" every morning is just a lil bit wrong in my opinion.

uhm... ok then....
yes breast feeding is good for your children, but i dont believe in breastfeeding long enough for your own child to remember it! who really wants to remember what their moms boob looks like?. i think this lady went abit overboard here

I didn't watch all of it. I guess it's not a huge deal but I find it disturbing... the little girl just creeped me out about how giddy she was about it. I dunno, it's odd to me but to each their own . Rolling Eyes
It made me curious though. What is a good age to stop breastfeeding, or at least to ween them off of it?

that just seems strange, i think once they can ask for it its time to ween them off. But thats my opinion. I would feel very strange letting a kid over the age of 3 breastfeed. It just doesnt seem normal to me.

oh my dear god.

to me that's sexual abuse, i don't care if other people do it until they're older because that's what people do, that is gross and wrong.

doing it until you're 5 is pushing it, but nearly 8? dude, come on.

Well I guess to each their own but I would feel so strange still breastfeeding when my child is that age. If I was still breasfeeding .Kaylee I was going to try to do it until she was 1.. I just can't imagine having a 5 or 7 year old attached to my boob Shocked My little brother is 7 & picturing a kid his size still being breastfed.. .. ahh I don't know.. It's just weird..

Edited because of spelling Rolling Eyes

I'm sorry, but I find that really disgusting. I think those little girls are going to have some serious issues when they are older.

I'm pro "extended" breastfeeding, but 5/6/7/8 is beyond extended to be honest.

I personally feel that she is unable to let go and accept her girls aren't babies any more.

I feel breastfeeding should go on until around 12-18 months and that 18-36 months is acceptable, but that weaning should have occured by 36 months.

by the time a child would be off formula and fully onto cows milk and real table food.

you can have the closeness and cuddels with your child without them sucking boobie.

It's kinda hard to say that because as I said I am very pro breastfeeding but I guess you have to draw the line somewhere... and she hasn't even got the pencil out the case yet let alone started drawing.

i think its ok to let your children decide things, but thats something most kids would be attached to so its something you decide not them...

that is absolutely sickening. those girls are going to have serious emotional problems, and i wouldnt be surprised if they had intimacy issues either. that woman is a wack job.

thank god i wasn't the only one disturbed by this.

i got the link from my other forums, which are just a november birth club, and the majority of the responses (8 pages worth) were going on about how beautiful it was.

an 8 year old suckling her mother's breast is not beautiful, it's just plain weird.

i wonder if they would have had the same reaction if it were a boy.
