Feeling Ill All the Time, I Need Some Advice...
Posted: 03-31-07 17:29pm

hey,

Well i'm writtin this post about me, i don't really know how to start it off so bear with me. I'm 20 and from UK. I'm in good health. I haven't been feeling myself for a very long time. I have been in and out the doctors for months. They say nothing is wrong with me or relate it to stress (which i aint stressed!)

A few months ago i was told i had a chest infection so i was given some pills and thats all. A couple of weeks later it was ok. I have been having these coughs and colds on and off and all resulting in chest infection. I had a chest infection for about a month or so at one time and it wouldn't go.
Recently i was told i had another chest infection and tonsilitis. I was given pills again and was told to come back if i still feel ill. I did and tehy gave me some more pills and thats all. They just fob me off really.

A few nights ago i came down with a very bad headache. I took some pills and thought it would go off. I fell asleep and woke up again and it was worse, this time i was feeling very sick and very dizzy too. I got my mum and she gave me some more pills which were co-codamol and went back to sleep. But i couldn't sleep i was throwing up instead. I was sick about 3 times and was still very dizzy and pain everywhere. After i was sick my mum gave me a flannel to put onto my head and some more pills but nureofen, these worked. I called in sick and i slept the whole day. Didn't wake up till 6pm that day, i was very drained.

This has been going on for ages and all i seem to get from the doctors is ''your stressed out'' or ''have these pills''. Thier useless. I have been having a lot of headaches, very dizzy and fainting a lot, feeling and being sick, feeling drained all the time and feeling like i have no energy to do anything. I feel like this nearly everyday for last 3-4months. I have doctors on monday for blood tests, but i like its migrane and something going on but i don't know anymore, need help...

Can anyone suggest what it could be or give me some advice? It's useless going to my doctor like i explained.

I will appreiacate your replies, thanks xx

Like you said, it's probably useless to go to your doctor, but it may not be useless to go to A doctor. I've had doctors like that too. They treat you for a few months with drugs that don't work and then tell you it's in your head. Well, that's when you change doctors and find one that will actually care to find a diagnosis rather than simply act as a drug pusher and give up if any real work is involved in trying to help you.

In addition to that, you might be interested in looking into alternative medicine. Perhaps you could find a Naturopathic doctor in your area. Sometimes you can find Naturopaths that are also MD's as well. The advantage of alternative medicines is that they aim to treat the problem at the source. Rather than giving you anti-inflammatory drugs for a headache, they attempt to find what's causing your headache and aim at solving that. The whole body is connected and sometimes the whole body needs to be treated. A problem in the knee can cause problems in the chest. A heart problem can cause headaches. Etc, etc. Alternative medicine is more difficult though as if it is properly administered it requires life changes like exercising, diet, changing your environment (air purifier, water purifier, getting rid of household chemicals), etc. Sometimes it's simple enough that some supplements can help. High quality vitamins are always a recommendation (I find USANA to be the best). Other times remedial supplements might help, especially if it's a temporary problem like an infection out of control and chronic. However, other changes also help fight the infection in addition to just taking a supplement that kills infections.

I'd think it'd be best to find a new doctor and continue to find an answer. Blood tests, heart tests, perhaps an Ear Specialist (since you're dizzy) and so on as your doctor recommends. However, I'd hope you'd also consider seeking a Naturopath's help. If nothing, he can help you onto a healthier path. You might find natural medicine (When I say natural I do not simply mean herbs and vitamins to replace drugs. I mean a method of treating the body at the source of the problem. Changing that which is imbalancing your body's natural ability to heal. And using natural techniques such as diet, exercise, etc. Avoiding drugs that aim at the symptoms rather than the disease. And drugs that aim at the disease rather than the source.) to be amazing and amazingly complicated. I've been into it for several years now and I'm constantly learning new things. Just like the conventional drug market it is a profit market. So of course there are products that make big claims with small delivery. That's why it's complicated, because you'll have to work around the marketing claims, and you'll also have to realize it's not as easy as taking a miracle pill. The best way is to change your habits to bring about total health. A Naturopath could help you, because there's simply too much to learn. He'd also be able to better recommend where to look for your specific conditions and what to do.

Sorry that I couldn't be of any direct help to your specific condition. It's just that I've found conventional medicine not very adept at curing diseases, only treating symptoms. I've also found them inept at treating symptoms when all their tests show nothing is wrong. Over the years I've had several problems that the doctors and conventional medicine have offered me no help with, but through alternative methods I was able to again live.

Hope you find a diagnosis with a new doctor, and of course help and relief.
