Herpes, Low Immunity/Immune System, & HIV
Posted: 04-01-07 09:44am

My question, I have had serval test for HIV all negative! I still for at least 8 months have had burning skin, red dots on chest (they tend to go away after a week or so, but reappear), burning sensation like a rash in my groin area yet no signs of a rash, burning on outside edge of my left nostril like a sore is there, re-occurring herpes out breaks about every 30 to 45 days, constant white tongue (it does go away after brushing but returns) sore spots in my mouth, yet no white spots, some muscle aches mostly in my left shoulder and in the legs . (1) Are these symptoms correlative ARS? Do current Elisa detect all subtypes of HIV? What if not HIV is this? Please me! My doctor is no help and thinks I am a wack job, I can not sleep, I am depressed and at my ropes end, someone help me!

The early stages of an HIV-infection may include some of the symptoms you mention (herpes breakouts and rashes, for example) but the serological tests and PCR definitely excluded HIV-infection as a cause for your symptoms. AIDS-related syndrome (ARS) is one of the later stages of the HIV infection wherein HIV- blood tests must be positive. In your case, all the HIV-tests were negative.
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection is a wide spread and life long infection. HSV can reoccur whenever local immunity decreases, or your immune system weakens. An HIV-infection is only one of many reasons for a decrease in immunity; you focused only on it in your question. Stress and anxiety are the most common reasons for herpes outbreaks. Burning sensations and itching without rash can be also due to anxiety. You might consider consulting a mental health professional or an alternative medical practitioner to learn ways to cope with anxiety and stress.
