Braxton Hicks Posted: 04-02-07 21:51pm
Hey everyone!
.I haven't had the internet for a week
because I left this house due to some
problems we were having and my parents
house didn't have the internet. So I have
a question .I need to ask now that I have
the internet. I am 18 weeks and I don't
know how braxton hicks feel. I know
they're like having contractions and this
is my first baby so I don't even know how
contractions feel. Anyway, I have been
feeling these strong pains every now and
then near my bladder. They don't last
long, maybe about 5 seconds then go away
and come back a few minutes later. I don't
know if I am too early to be experiencing
braxton hicks or not so I was just
wondering if those were it, or is it just
the baby stretching? And if it wasn't like
.B.H what do they actually feel like so I
can tell the difference?
.Also, I left my parents house today to go
back home til wednesday because that's
when I go to the doctors for the
ultrasound (.i finally get to see what sex
the baby is) and I forgot my
prenatal vitamins. I won't be taking them
til wednesday, is that bad for the baby? I
have one source prenatal vitamins I have
from walmart but I don't know if I should
take those til I get the actual prescribed
pills. Or is that fine?
.Sorry this is so long.

Everyone is just so different and how we
perceive pain or discomfort is variable.
You could be experiencing round ligament
pain instead of contractions. Look it up.
You should find stuff on line. I have also
been having similar pains and the doctor
stated that the pains are most likely
round ligament - thank goodness. You do
have a good question, though. Those pains
have been a little scary for me because I
am in a high risk pregnancy with a chance
of preterm labor. As a result, I am a bit
of a freak right now with any little pain
I experience.
Concerning the prenatal, I would just take
your prenatal from Walmart. It's better
than nothing.
You must be very excited about the
ultrasound!!! I hope he or she poses for
you:) My first child was sucking his thumb
and "playing" with various body parts
during his ultrasound. It was so funny and
cute. The boy I am currently pregnant with
loves to stretch and seemingly move
everywhere, all the time!He doesn't seem
to stay in one place very long so it's
hard to get a good picture. Good luck!!
I think after 12 weeks taking prenatal
vitamins isn't vital for your baby's
development.. but I didn't take any at all
and had a perfectly healthy baby so I
wouldn't worry too much about not having
them for a few days.
with jordynne i stopped taking mine aroudn
15 weeks they made me miserable, i ate
fruits and veggies etc. so i wouldnt worry
i was like paranoid with my first child
btu the 2nd not so much, people have been
having babies millions of years without
vitamins etc. they all did good. ur most
likely experiencing ligament pains i
think braxton hicks i think are alil
different.

stomach tightoning and i'm a little
uncomfortable for a few seconds but
everyone is differnt my sister was in
agony when she had .B.H. but i'm just
like' oooo theres another one'

I also think what you are feeling is round
ligament pain. Everything is stretching
to accomodate a baby. You'll have all
kinds of odd little pains by the time it's
over.
To me Braxton Hicks felt like my whole
belly was tightening up. They didn't
hurt, but I definetely knew something was
going on in there. Some people say they
hurt them, so it varies from person to
person. You're not to early to feel them.
I felt them during my entire pregnancy.
Many people do not take vitamins and they
have perfectly healthy babies, and lots of
women don't have a prescription for pre
natal viamins. If it makes you feel
better to take the OTC vitamins you got
from .Walmart, do it. You can get loads
of folic acid from greens (spinach, swiss
chard, beet greens, etc).
I bet your excited for your ultrasound.

Its too early to have BH at this point.
What you are feeling is most probably the
stretching and pulling of your growing
baby and uterus. Zanny is correct..the
vits past the 3 month mark is no longer
for the baby but rather for you. I stopped
taking them at that point and my dr. gave
me just iron pills i was bordeline anemic

maybe its different over here but i was
told you do need to take the prenatals the
whole pregnancy
The fetus gets all of its' nutrients
(including vitamins and minerals) from the
mothers diet, nutrients stored in the
mothers bones and tissues and some
nutrients made in the placenta. The
placenta aids in transferring nutrients,
hormones and other substances from mother
to baby. Nutrients found in the food
consumed by the mother are needed for the
placenta to perform these transfers.
The increased needs of the mother and
fetus sometimes make it difficult to
obtain enough of the required vitamins and
minerals from the diet alone.

round ligimtment pain is very possible, i
doubt its bh, i think youd know
i can feel my entire stomach tighten and
get weird
it may also be the baby hitting your
bladder if the pain is right there, i know
when valkyrie hits my bladder it hurts a
bit sometimes
i havent actualy taken my prenatals on a
regualr basis since i was about 20 weeks
or so, i have a bad memory so its hard for
me to remember every night
good luck with your ulrasound

round lig pain sounds right.
you have bh during your entire pregnancy
however it's not until your really close
to your delivery will you begin to feel
them...so i doubt your feeling them right
now.

many women have bh the entire pregnancy.
But a woman only feels them if they're
dehydrated.
Drink lots of water.
I didn't take my prenatals because they
made me sick as a dog. My next pregnancy,
though, I'm determined to find one that's
milder.
They *are* important, but it's not a
biggie if you miss a couple days.

I had bh the other day. I totally freaked
out and called the doctor (hey, it's my
first pregnancy I have no idea what is
going on in there). Anyways, she told me
to drink water and she'd call back. I
drank an entire gallon of water and they
totally went away. Now I am drinking tons
of water because I was so scared I don't
want that again.
