Is he running a temperature? I would do
that first - take his temp. If it's 100 or
above, I would play it safe and bring him
to the .e.r. If not, I would try a few
things: give him some gas drops (maybe his
tummy is hurting), give him a bath to
maybe calm him down, try rocking him...
Do you recognize his different cries yet?
Babies have different cries for when
they're hungry, when they want comfort,
when they're tired, and when they're in
pain. But if you don't know his cries yet,
that can be difficult.

I think you should definitely take his
temperature. If it's over 100 degrees and
you can't get him an appointment tomorrow,
then I would take him to the er. I would
say chances are it's just an ear
infection, but you never really know.
If his temperature isn't high and you try
everything else you can think of I'd say
take him to the doctor still. Most of the
time with ear infections they will have a
fever, but not always.

thanks guys.. no temp.. its 98.5! i gave
him mylicon about an hours ago.. but im
going to try a bath now.. he loves them
so i hope this works. thanks for the
advice.. do you think i should call an
outside doc if it pursists? ill post again
and let you know!
oo as for his cries i do know them.. its
weird.. he starts by crying as if he is
hungry and then after i try to feed him he
gets fustrated and mad and then he cries
like he has pains.. almost as if it were
gas but its not.. that was the weird
part.
well im going to try a bath and rub his
tummy in case! brb to post

he is just colicky. sometime newborns cry
for hours on end. Your doing the right
things...bathe him, rub his tummy, give
him gripe water and stuff. Dont take him
to the dr for just crying...check to see
if there are visible things wrong with
him..like laura suggested. and these types
of cries can last for his 1st 3 months. my
son did the same every once in a while .
he is just colicky.

there is not such thing as "just colicky".
that is an excuse for "i have no idea what
is wrong with your baby".
babies cry for a reason, whether its
because they cant tolerate their formula,
an ear infection, acid reflux, teething,
whatever. our pediatric GI said 99% of
"colic" is actually a milk soy/protein
intolerance, or acid reflux. some doctors
just dont investigate the cause for
crying, which is really sad.
anway, this does not sound like colic at
all. if this is not his normal behavior,
then there is something wrong. could be an
ear infection. "colicky" babies are
colicky every day, not just randomly.

yes there is such a thing called colicy
babies. ....there is reasons why babies
cry and then there is no reason ..no
reason meaning unable to understand
why..and that is called colic..it sounds
exactly like colic to me and my son did
that a few times and my dr. said it was.
and no colcky babies are NOT colicky
everyday for your info .

the definition of a "colicky" baby is:
cries for more than 3 hours a day, for
more than three days a week, for more than
3 weeks. so until your child does that,
they are *not* colicky. occasional crying
does not classify it as "colic". i know a
little more about this than you do, trust
me.

So I guess those times that there was
nothing visibly wrong with my son, but he
was screaming his head off I shouldn't
have taken him to the doctor? Wrong.. He
had ear infections. You shouldn't tell
people not to take a baby to the doctor if
you don't see anything wrong. Obviously we
aren't doctors, so we don't see everything
that they do. Until you get your medical
degree you shouldn't go around telling
people what is wrong with their babies.
An untreated infection can spread from the
middle ear to other parts of the head,
including the brain. In addition, the
usually temporary hearing loss from an ear
infection can become permanent, if the
infection is left untreated.

thats exactly what i was saying. babies
cry for a reason...always. it could be an
ear infection. i think you should call the
doctor. emma was all like "oh he is just
colicky"....like she is just supposed to
let him cry? what if he really does have
an ear infection, that could damage his
ears permanently.

my name is not emma first of all. and
secondly , he was most probably just
colicky..so natalia just shut your angry
mouth up and go deal with your anger some
other way.
samantha, you dont run to the dr.
everytime an infant cries. They cry
sometimes for reason that are not known
but not actually threating and that is
defined as colic. i learned not to take
every cry and sniffle so serious...thats
my opinion.

safe than sorry take him to the dr.
then dont choose that as your screen name
if you do not wish to be called that,
smarty.
second, what in my post is classified as
angry? you are the one that is condoning
letting babies cry....what if they are in
pain? i feel bad for your child.

your name isn't "natalia"...it's .natalie.
Chase's name isn't "chase." My name isn't
"babymajic"...soo errrrmmmm....
When it comes to the baba crying a
lot...if there is no fever, there prob
isn't an infection of any sort. As fever
is the 1st sign of infection in the body.
He's only 5/6 weeks, so gas is more than
likely the problem. Lay him on his belly
on your knees and pat his back.
My daughter never had "colic", or "any
serious problem" as an infant. Babies cry.
it's just what they do.
If my daughter didn't cry, then I'd
be worried.
yall are right, we aren't
Dr.'s so how can we give *any* info?!
Because we're mothers who have gone
through different things with our
different babies.
Take your baba to the Dr. at the nearest
appt. The .e.r is *crawling* with germs
and I'd hate for your baby to be exposed
if not necessary.

ummm k, doctor. my son has had 2 ear
infections with no fever. so dont tell
people that there is no infection just
cause there is no fever.
secondly, i dont know everyones real name
on here. screen names are chosen on here
because that is what you are referred to
on here, emma.

SO did .oni. And it was spreading to her
brain...I *just* posted about this the
other day.
But *infants* *do* have fever. and they
*do* favor one side over the one in pain.
If she's not experiencing these symptoms,
then I doubt it's an ear infection.
you don't have an infant...you have a damn
near toddler.

what are you talking about? this happened
when he was like 4 months old-that is an
infant, not a toddler.

alright. Then I'm wrong. It *is* possible
for an infant to have an ear infection
with no fever. *if cought early enough*.
We cought .oni's before her body could
even begin fighting it. So, in these
instances, an ear infection can occur w/no
fever.
But I would wait for a Dr., not the .e.r.
The .e.r is *filled* with horrible
germs!!! (so is the Dr. if they don't
separate sick baby days from well baby
days)
Reguardless, take him to the Dr. if the
crying doesn't stop with mylicon(gas).
