I just got back from my 18 week ultrasound. Turns out I am having a boy but they found some abnormalities. They saw that there was a hole where the umbilical cord and there is membranes forming around it. They also saw that the bottom of the spine isn't in place. The brain isn't developing right and there was something else but forgot. I have an appointment on monday with a specialist so that they can see everything on a better ultrasound and tell me exactly what's wrong. The doctor said I might need an amnio. Has anyone ever experienced something like this to where the doctor told you something was wrong? I hope and pray everything will be okay. But there isn't just one problem going on, there's numerous problems. With all what's wrong, do you think my baby will be born with disabilities or is it nothing too serious? Please. Someone give me answers. This will be my first baby and I really want everything to be okay.

im pretty sure it can mean spina bifida if there is a hole in the spine or its not in place. Im not a doctor. but from the sounds of it, it seems like your baby may have some dissabilities when its born. Good luck with everything, and I hope for the best for you.

I am just afraid of everything that is going on. They are going to see if there is anything with our genes that may have something to do with it as well. Because we might not beable to have children. I don't know. I remember what the other problem was though. Something in the brain is flat to where it's not properly working. So if this is all from the brain, do you think it'll have thinking disabilities or what? I can't wait til' monday. I will be worried til then and I want to figure out if anyone ever had this problem and it turned out to be nothing, you think that might be it? Because he didn't say it was serious or anything he just wanted the specialist to look and find exactly what's wrong by taking fluid through the umbilical cord.

Also because I am 18 weeks, do you think they can help save my baby? Can they fix anything? Sorry. I am just so worried, and I have been crying all day. I mean, if there is something wrong with the brain that means it will be different than other babies and since I am only 3 1/2 months the baby can't be growing slower than others?

I honestly don't know what to say, because i have no idea what it could be. did the doctor mention any disorders or names of diseases or anything? i can only imagine how hard it must be, not knowing what's going on and having to wait. i wonder if you call your doctor and ask some questions if they'll be able to answer some of them?

They told my mom that I had spina bifida. I came out fine. I do have a large birthmark in the center of my back just above my tail bone. I am not sure if it is a conincidence or not. I have known a few people that the regular sonogram showed an abnormality so they were refered to a better machine. With all but one there was nothing wrong. And the one that did show a problem was a conincidence and not at all what they were looking for. Hopefully, that will be the case for you and everything will be fine. Good luck and keep us posted!

Yeah my mom definitely is and so is my fiance. I was afraid that if we had to abort it he'd leave me but he said that isn't going to happen at all. My mom was crying on the phone telling me she hopes for the best. She has these two little angels she bought a week ago that answer your prayers if your worried so hopefully some prayers will be answered. I'd love to have a baby, not lose it. Sad but thanks for your support.

my doc told me my baby may have downs syndrom then i had to wait like almost a month before my ultrasound to see

turns out shes fine, but i had an amnio, its not big deal, they get the ultrasound and find the baby and placenta then figure out the best place for th eneedle (it is a rather large needle, so be prepared for that) then they put iodine stuff all over your belly and stick the needle in while watching the ultrasound to be sure they dont poke him, then they pull out the fluid and look at it to be sure its the right colour and all, thats it

if you boys anything like valkyrie he will be kicking the crap out of the place they stuck the needle in, dont know why she did that but it hurt like hell

best advise i can give you is to try not to stress, remember there is still a possibility your baby is fine and all is good, think positive...i was dying the time between when they told me and my appointment, then my friend told me something that helped she said no matter what she is still my daughter and she is still perfect and to not think something is wrong, but something might be different and there is nothing wrong with different

i hope everything is fine, good luck

if you need to talk feel free to pm me

He said when I go to the specialist they are going to do an ultrasound first and if they think something is wrong they are going to do an amnio. I heard they numb you before they stick it in. But, before I even knew I was pregnant I was smoking cigarettes (like a pack a day) and I went to a party and drank some alcohol and smoked alittle of the other stuff. Everyone is hoping and praying everything is okay, so I guess I will have to wait and see.

sweetie try not to worry you will be in the best of hands and you need to have further tests done to confirm any queries that the dr might have .But if your bub goes have some problems there is plenty of help out there today to make life easy .Don`t blame your self for this that has happened as it`s no ones fault these type of things happen for no reason.
All the best on monday and i hope all your news isn`t bad news

Is there a percentage to know how good ob-gyn doctors can think there is something wrong in the ultrasound? Like, can two doctors be wrong at the same time? I had one before this and everything was fine. The heartbeat today was 152 and she said that was normal. This is making everything so hard.

my docs said they dont numb the area because thats just an extra needle that will only freeze ur belly fat so its pointless..
i also had an amnio because they thought my baby had downs but he didnt. they also saw a bright spot in Reese's left side of his cheast, they couldnt do anything about it until he was born other then keep an eye on it (i found that out about 25ish weeks) you cant immagion how that feels waiting months to find out if your baby has something in them...
turned out to be nothing. there wasnt anything in there when they gave him a unltrasound when he was born

I'm so sorry that you're having such a worrying time - nothing I can say will make things any easier for you but I just want to say that I'm thinking of you and hoping that everything turns out fine.

It's frustrating for you that you don't have a specific condition that you can research but as someone else here said, doctors don't like to say anything because if they've got it wrong then they'll have worried you for nothing.

*hugs*

I'm sorry that you are going through this, but as the other posters have said there is always a chance that your OB was wrong. Lots of people have had scares and everything turns out fine.

Alicia gave you great advice.

They don't numb your tummy for an amnio. It doesn't hurt that much.

first of all you don't have to abort. that is your choice....no one is going to make that choice for you. you have been saying that since the begining that you think that there is something wrong wit your baby and that you are going to need an amnio...so why is this a shock to you.....

i had these problems during both of my pregnancies. I had an amnio with my son, and it wasn't bad at all, turns out that there wasn't anything wrong with him, but he had a heart condition. I had an amnio with my daughter and nothing was wrong with her too.....three of my friends had these issues that you state with yours and two of them had the amnio....one came out perfect the other came out with problems....both the babies are fine....the third one decided that there was no need for an amnio....had a perfect baby.

good luck
