I Really Need Some Advice On This Posted: 04-05-07 19:54pm
So I am having a hard time trying to
figure out what to do with this situation
I have. My husbands dad is a Chiropractor
and he believes in adjusting a newborn
baby the day or day after it is born. He
says that the stress and pulling on the
babies head and neck isnt good and so
therefore the baby needs to be adjusted. I
believe in chiropractic care to an extent.
But, I know that I dont want my child
adjusted the day its born or anytime soon
after that. My father-in-law thinks that
babies could die or something if they
arent adjusted. How do I handle this? Has
anyone else been through this situation.
It causes me so much stress and is on my
mind like everyday!! SOmeone please help
and give me their input!!

my instinct is to say no.
I've never heard of such a thing and
babies are born with soft bones so that
they can compress during birth - in a
nutshell babies are designed to be born.
pulling them about after birth could be
disasterous.
mention this to your doctor/midwife and
say that you don't want it done.
assuming you give birth in hospital I'm
sure your doctor would say that such a
thing can not be done.

I am not professional at Chiropractic care
but I do know that I once worked for a man
that was a Chiropractor and he so firmly
believed in the practice that he did not
want his wife going to a regular doctor at
all for nothing. His wife did in fact get
sick and needed to go to a doctor, she had
a upper respiratory infection and due to
her husband feeling so strongly about his
practice told his wife that all she needed
was to be adjusted. This was not what she
needed and her cold turned into pneumonia
and he still would not let her go.......
to make a long story short, she almost
died before he let her go to the doctor.
So my answer is NO I would not let him
adjust my child, I do not hold much faith
in that kind of thing, and it would be all
to easy for something to happen to you
newborn. I would be terrified that my baby
would be paralyzed (sp) or have a broken
neck.
Sorry this is so long and winded but this
is the way that I feel. Good luck and go
with what your mothers intuition tells
you. We were given that for a good
reason.
Good Luck.

My instincts say no, but I have no medical
qualifications to back up my answer!

Absolutely No way.
Some people take chiropractic care to a
ridiculous level. It cannot cure things.
Anyone can crack anyones joints.
A babies bones are soft, they will
'adjust' on their own.
What's is your husband's opinion on this?
Can he talk to your father in law?

Like the previous posters stated....babies
bones were made to withstand the stress
and pressures put on their bodies during
birth. I personally would not risk having
my child adjusted at all. And from my
personal experience as soon as I started
seeing a chiropractor...I had to continue
because my back never felt the same. It
always had to be adjusted to feel better.
I wouldn't want my child to have to do
that on a regular basis.

if that were true, I believe the majority
of the human race would be dead.
