Ongoing Sinus Infections And Postnasal Drip
Posted: 04-05-07 20:24pm

For the past couple years I have been dealing with ongoing sinus infections and postnasal drip issues. At first they seemed seasonal. I am fine in the summer months, but during winter and fall I have the problems. I have had my 4th back to back case of this recently. It seems to go in 6 week cycles by the time I feel it coming on till it leaves me then comes back again.

I feel it coming on with a mild burny scratchy throat for a day or two. Then I go hoarse. The main problem is the major postnasal drip I have. It keeps me up all night and I cough. It's not like a normal allergy with itchy, watery eyes etc. I don't actually have stuffy congestion either. I actually feel ill with body aches and soreness like I have the flu. It wears me down with lack of sleep and work etc.

I recently went on a maintenance plan of Nasonex and Claritin-D. That appeared to not help. In the past few months I have also tried the above along with Asteline spray. The only thing that stops me from coughing is Tussionex, but they are relunctant to give me that everytime I have this problem because of its addictive nature. They often give me an antibiotic as well.

I am 33 and had my tonsils out about 10 years ago because of numerous bouts of tonsilitis and strep that would never go away. I had allergies when I was in HS and took allery shots but nothing major. About 3 years ago I damaged my nose playing soccer and had surgery to repair a deviated septum. It does appear that this problem has gotten worse after that.

I am going back to my primary Doctor once more before I go and see my Ear Nose & Throat.

Any ideas or suggestions?
