Implanon/ Depo/ Birth Control Posted: 04-05-07 23:33pm
I am looking for a new birth control. I
have previously used Depo-Provera. It made
my periods stop completely, but I gained
40 pounds which is why I stopped it. I
have been looking into the new Implanon
because it said it can make you stop
having periods, and that is what I am
looking for, but it also has a weight gain
side effect. My question(s) is/are will
Implanon have the same effects on me as
the Depo? If it is to different to
compare, is there a pill that is close in
chemical composition that I could try to
see how Implanon will affect me? Or can
the Depo dose be altered so it wont have
such extreme weight gain side effect?

Have you concidered going on a birth
control pill similar to seasonale. You
only receive your period every three
months. (this is something you can do with
monophasic pills as well. You simply skip
the placebo week.) That way if you have
any adverse side effects you can simply
stop taking them as opposed to the shot
were it has to go through the entire three
month (possibly longer) before you bagan
feeling any difference.

I never remember to take pills so they are
not a good long term option. The best I
could do would be what I was wondering
above. I need birth control to be periodic
not daily, with little or no chance of
weight gain...and preferably stop my
period, but anything that would make it
less severe and less painful would be
great too. Depo would be perfect if it
didnt make nearly every person that uses
it gain huge amounts of weight.
