Should I Take Antibiotics In This Situation?
Posted: 04-06-07 01:38am

Hi

I'm currently sharing a 550 square feet apartment with my sister, who was recently diagnosed with pneumonia and who has been sick for a while before that.

She's now on an inhaler, steroids, and an antibiotic and seems to be getting better.

Anyway, I'm seeing the doc tomorrow and she wants to put me on an antibiotic as well, even though I don't have anything more than a slight occasional cough. Should I do this, or should I try and let my body fight it, and save the antibiotics for when I really need them?

I know many strains of illnesses have become resistant due to the overuse of antibiotics, and I don't want to contribute to the problem.

Any advice is appreciated, I know you (probably) aren't medical professionals so of course I'll take that into account. If you are, even better! Very
Happy

Thanks

I would relay your concerns with your doctor. That way they can take that into account. They may have good reasons for prescibing the antibiotics that you are not aware of. Or they may be doing at as a precautionary measure. Either way, they will be able to tell you what is best for you given their knowledge of your past medical history. They should address your concerns and put you at ease with their dicesion (either way). If they do not aknowledge your concerns then it is time for you to find another doctor. Good luck! I hope you are feeling better soon!
