New to Birth Control; Questions On Usage Posted: 04-09-07 15:21pm
Hey I have a question or two. I started
Ortho Tricyclen Lo about ten days ago. My
last period was March 10th but when I went
to planned parenthood (On the 30th or so
of March) she told me to go ahead and
start the pill anyway, even though it
wasn't the first day of my period and that
it'd just delay my period two weeks or
so... My question is that obviously its
been like 34 days since my last period,
and I have had sex (with condoms and birth
control since I got it) since I started
it.. but I'm still paranoid that I could
be pregnant.. If I got an at home
pregnancy test would it show up even if I
was pregnant?
Also, when do I start the second pack of
pills? Do I start those the day my period
starts or do I finish the first pack
entirely first (it has the week worth of
placebo pills, so it's a 28 day pack)
Any and all information anyone has would
be helpful!!

I wish doctors would explain these things
to their patients :/
First, you are probably not pregnant.
Secondly, your period will not start until
some time during the placebo week. it
could be as late as day 3 or 4. Thirdly,
you need to finish every pill in the pack,
including the placebo pills. Some women
don't take the placebo pills, but they
still wait a full week before starting the
new pack.

Thanks so much. I figured I was just being
absolutely ridiculously paranoid (because
even before I had sex when I was two days
late I freaked out and thought I was the
next emaculate conception or something.)
