Pregnancy Possible Without Ejaculation? Posted: 04-11-07 00:12am
Hi,
i was wondering if it was possible to
become pregnant without intercourse and
without ejaculation. Allow me to
illustrate-
my partner and I have done a little
fooling around on several occasions but
have never had intercourse. I haven't
ejaculated on or around her vaginal area.
However, this afternoon, as we were
fooling around I noticed a small secretion
from my penis. This landed on the upper
part of her underwear, however, we
continued to fool around and eventually,
my penis was rubbing around her vaginal
area. Keep in mind, her underwear was
always on and nothing went under it. Later
I fingered her but i'm confident that I
did not have any sperm on my hands. She is
supposed to begin her period on the 23 or
24.
My questions are twofold. First, what was
the secretion? I did not ejaculate and I
just don't understand what it could have
been.
Secondly, is it possible to get pregnant
doing something like this? If so, what are
the chances? Should she take the "morning
after" pill?
Thank you for any responses.

Chances of getting pregnant are EXTREMELY
unlikely. What you saw was pre-ejaculatory
fluid. Every man has that. It's simply a
fluid that clears your internal pathways
of anything that shouldn't be there before
semen passes through. Since your urine is
slightly acidic, this liquid, which is
slightly basic like semen, passes through
in order to neutralize it so your sperm
will continue to be functional. It
shouldn't ever physiologically have sperm
in it and even if it did it would be
rather difficult for it to be functional
sperm. As for getting pregnant, you have
really nothing to be worried about at all.

Pre-ejaculate often does have sperm and
causes many pregnancies. That is why the
pull out method is not a reliable method
of birth control, even if the man does
pull out in time. Many teens get pregnant
and say, "Well, he was only in there for a
second," or "He did not even ejaculate."
fool (feels funny calling you that, but ok
) It
is very unlikely that she would be
pregnant if she had her underwear on.
Sperm has trouble swimming through fabric.
Also, to stay alive, sperm has to be kept
wet. That means that if the semen dries
out, the sperm dies. So for sperm to
successfully make it through underwear,
the underwear pretty much has to be
soaking wet, and even then, it's an
awfully long way to swim.
For more information check out these
sites:
"Although sperm can live for up to six
days inside the female body, they tend not
to survive very long on clothing or
hands..."

ex_faqs.htm
"The high failure rate of a guy “pulling
out” makes this 'situation' NOT a form
of birth control by any means. This is due
to the lubricating presence of
pre-ejaculate fluid, which leaks out of
the penis before ejaculation. In many
cases with many people there are more than
enough sperm to impregnate a female...."

Ok. I should correct myself. I suppose it
can contain sperm. However, the entire
purpose of it is to chemically prepare for
semen. It can contain sperm but in a
perfect situation, and of course everyone
is slightly different, it shouldn't
ideally contain semen. But you are right.
It can, though ideally it shouldn't.
Obviously, we do not live in a perfect
biological world.

Agreed. I have heard of a few studies
where researchers say there was no sperm
in the pre-ejaculate that they looked at,
and the researchers said it might be a
myth altogether*. Then I have heard many
other people say that pre-ejaculate can
contain sperm if there was sperm in the
reproductive tract from a previous
ejaculation, and the pre-ejaculate was
flushing it out**. Until the researchers
finish their studies and definitively say
otherwise, I always say it's possible.
Better safe than sorry, especially in
these situations!
* "The more significant finding, however,
was that most pre ejaculate samples did
not contain any sperm and those that did
had only small clumps of a very small
amount of sperm which seemed to be
immobile.... If these results are
confirmed, they may dispel the myth that
pre ejaculate fluid contains sperm."

org/docs/1019/090313.html
(I find these guys a little fishy so far.
They found sperm in pre-ejaculate, but
they say it might be a myth? Hmm. Does
not make sense to me. I could understand
if they had said it might "dispel the myth
that pre-ejaculate can cause pregnancy" or
that "pre-ejaulate may contain viable
sperm," but that isn't what they said.
They said sperm in general after they just
told us that they did find some sperm.)
** "Although pre-ejaculate does not
contain sperm, it can pick up live sperm
up from a man's reproductive tract from
previous ejaculations. This small amount
of sperm could cause pregnancy,...."

Thanks for the responses everyone.
So what I'm getting is it is possible for
her to be pregnant but extremely unlikely.
She did have her underwear on the whole
time and it wasn't soaking wet so i think
we'll be okay.
Should I ask her to take the morning after
pill anyway?

The chances are incredibly low... Very
low. I really wouldn't worry too much
about it but it is always better to be
safe than sorry. Why don't you look into
other birth control methods so you don't
have to worry next time? I know you
weren't having sex but it would put your
mind to rest.

I think the chances of her being pregnant
are so incredibly small if everything you
told us was accurate, that personally, I
would not even bother with the morning
after pill. That's just me though. If
you want to look into it just to be sure,
or even just for the peace of mind, go for
it.

Again thanks for all the replies.
I do have some condoms on hand just in
case but we're going to wait to have sex
until a much later date. I don't think
there is much of a chance, if any, of her
being pregnant. Everything I told you
guys was accurate. Its just a little
nerve racking when the internet basically
tells you whatever you are looking for.
Last question I promise. I looked into
the "day after pills" and they really
didn't give much of an explanation of side
effects and how serious they are. Has
anyone here experienced anything?
Again thanks for all responses.

in my experience, the morning after pill
doesn't have effects that are all that
bad. It's basically just a big dose of
progesterone birth control (or at least
the one I had was). I had some spotting
and my next period was weird, and I felt
nauceous. Nothing worse than the stress of
thinking you might be pregnant.
However, if I was her, I wouldn't worry
about it. You can if you're concerned but
it doesn't sound like there is much of a
reason to worry.
Also, I know that some doctors will give a
prescription for the morning after pill
(map) for you to have just in case you
need it. It's a good idea if you are not
on a hormonal birth control.

According to these sites:
"What are the most common side effects of
the Morning-after Pill?
irregular bleeding: Women using the
morning-after pill may experience a change
in their next period. It may come early,
on time, or be late. Most women will get
their period 7 to 9 days after treatment.
If your period has not occurred by 21 days
after treatment, you should check this out
with a pregnancy test.
nausea: Half of women using this method
will experience nausea and some will have
vomiting. Take the morning-after pill
with food to minimize this side effect.
When vomiting occurs due to the
morning-after pill it probably indicates
that enough hormone has reached the blood
stream to have its desired effect. There
is no need to repeat the dose.
ectopic pregnancy: If the morning-after
pill fails to prevent pregnancy, there is
an increased chance it is a tubal
pregnancy.
other: Common side effects include breast
tenderness, fatigue, headache, abdominal
pain, and dizziness. Since the
morning-after pill is a short-term
treatment, these symptoms should resolve
shortly after you complete the two
doses."

There is no way that she is pregnant. You
can get pregant from pre-cum BUT you were
never inside her when you had the
pre-cum.
When you ejaculate (say on her stomach)
that sperm is dead when it hits the air.
If you were having sex and pulled out to
ejaculate then there is a small chance
because of the pre-cum.
The sperm has to be inside of her.

Sperm does not die as soon as it hits air.
It usually stays alive for about one to
three hours, but it depends on the
environment. Usually if the semen is wet,
the sperm is still alive. The semen will
dry out in open air eventually, causing
the sperm to die, but that certainly does
not happen the minute it comes out of the
penis!
That means pregnancy can occur even if the
penis never went in the vagina. Pregnancy
can occur if fingers with semen on them
are put into the vagina. It also can
occur if semen drips from the anus to the
vagina during vaginal sex.
More info:
"Sperm are alive and active as long as
they are wet. If your partners' hands are
still wet or damp, you could get pregnant.
Sperm are very determined little
creatures. Active sperm placed near the
vagina can find their way into the body to
fertilize the ovum. Pregnancy can and does
happen this way."

So we have decided to not worry about it.
It seems as tho its very unlikely there
was any sperm in the first place and also
the pre cum wasn't even inside her or very
close to her vaginal area. Anyone have
any last comments?

Sounds good. I wouldn't worry either.
However, is there a reason you (or she) is
not on birth control? I guess if you're
not having sex than you don't need to be
but it sounds like you are headed in that
direction...
