I do know most medical physicans (OBGYN) do not want to perform a hysterectomy until you are much older, well past child bearing age, unless something is medically wrong and/or this requires you to have one. You may not want children now, but lets say in another 10-15 years, you find that perfect man, and you both want a child???????????Now, you saying that ain't gonna happen, but you can't predict the future. I did not want children either..............I did once I turned 26. I was glad I waited and did everything pobbible not to get pregnant until I was ready. I have a daughter who turns 23 this year. Maybe you need a stronger dose of contaceptive pills, also wearing condoms everytime, even the contraceptive foam..........you do what it takes, but I would not give up the right to ever have a child not as young as you are now. There are ways of keeping from getting pregnant. You just have to make sure you are prepared....and not take the chance. Please reconsider! Cool

It does not sound bad or selfish...you are only 20 years old. This should be the time of your life! Things have changed since I was a 20, Lord have they ever.....but it use to be, enjoy while you are young, earn a living save for hte future. Make sure you have stability before even thinking baout having a child...not today...........an 11 year old in Chattanooga gave birth to twins...all 3 children are doing well. Those headlines made me sick to my stomach................As for you. you mentioned your partner has a daughter. I was a stepmother to 4 kids a long time before I even thought about wanting one for myself. Have you discussed your sondition wiht your OBGYN? If so, I would tell you to at least get one or two other opinions before making your final decision. It is your life and you ahre the one who has to live with the decision you make. I am just the Fairy*Godmother sitting in the wings hoping I can at least try to help or offer words of comfort! Laughing

at 20 I really really did not want kids - uh huh no way never.
I'm 28 now - I had to have uterine surgury including a hemi-hysterectomy.
I would do pretty much anything if it meant I could have kids right now.

it happens - life changes around us and we change within it.

it really sounds as if you are not using your birth control properly.
your best option would be to have a mirena ius fitted and to use spermicidal lubricant (and/or spermicidal lubricated condoms).
