I'm new here but enjoyed reading some of
the others posts. I started having
anxiety about a year ago when speaking in
front of groups. One attack was so sever,
I had to bail on a room full of ppl where
I was one of the main presenters. My
doctor prescribed inderal and valium which
seems to work well just before I start a
presentation. Normally, if I can get
through the first 2 minutes everything is
great. Its just getting started.
I work more than fulltime and just
recently finished work on my MS in
December. I was pulling close to 100hr
weeks between working and school for the
past 2 years. After graduating, I put my
extra time back into working on my
consulting business. Still overworking
and little sleep.
Well, last week 2 things happened, I found
out my department is getting reorganized
and consumed by another. And my
consulting business had a set back when my
server crashed. I started having the
constant feeling of anxiety, not sleeping
well, loss of apetite, constant worry
about things that are minor. I honestly
think my situation at work will be fine I
just don't understand why I can't stop
worrying.
I went to my doctor again and he
prescribed exeffor. I tried that for 2
days and it was horrible, weird dreams,
thoughts, night sweats, etc.. I called
him back and he gave me cymbalta, but
after doing some research on that, I'm
afraid to take it as well. So, I'm
trying to do this naturally. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks,
chris..

Well, you definitely have a lot on your
plate so I can see why you are having the
anxiety. I did a few sessions of
Biofeedback. It is were they place
receptors on you skin the measure
temperature and muscle tension.
You teach your self how to relax. You
start with your toes. You just repeat to
yourself that they are feeling very heavy
and warm. Try to relax your muscles at the
same time. You just continue to repeat
this to yourself until your toes feel
heavy and warm. Then you move your way up
your body. You need to be laying down or
in a reclined position. It should be quite
and dark (preferably). An you should try to
set aside *at least* 15-20 min. This takes
a while to get the hang of. It took me
quite a few weeks. So don't get upset if
it doesn't happen immediately. I fell
asleep the first few times
This will help you to control your daily
stress. Especially if you do this in the
evenings after dinner or before bed. This
will probably not help you with the public
speaking. It may...but I wouldn't count on
it.
I hope this helps. If you would like some
more detailed instructions feel free to pm
me. If this isn't what you were looking
for than I am sorry.
I hope things work out for you. Keep us
posted!

Just the thought of trying to relax my
muscles seems impossible. I can barely
relax when getting my nails done (the nail
tech. tells me over and over again to
relax my hand) or even getting a massage.
It's almost as if it's impossible for me.
Perhaps I should try the biofeedback
professionally. I have tried it many times
individually and I just can't do it. I am
a pretty severe case of Generalized
Anxiety Disorder. You sound like you are
quite good at the biofeedback thing!! You
actually fell asleep??

I have a friend who does only natural
remedies. She uses something called "
Sepia" to help with her anxiety. She has
good results with it. You can buy it at
any health food store.
Good luck!
