my dog has a tick on his neck and he won't
let me get it. i'm so grossed out by ticks
and the thought that it might fall off in
my bed.
question: do ticks die when they fall off?
a dead tick in my bed would still be gross
but less horrifying than a live one.
i've tried to get it a couple times today
and he keeps snapping at me.

put rubbing alcohol on it - it will cause
the tick to die and let go.
don't pull it - you could leave the jaws
behind and poor pup could get a nasty
infection.

rubbing alcohol? i've never heard that.
i'm going to have to find his muzzle so i
can try that later.
i've always just pulled them off, i didn't
know things could be left behind. ticks
are seriously so disgusting, they're like
indestructible.

The alcohol really works. I took a cutip
and just kept rubbing around it with
alcohol especially around the head and it
just fell off after a little bit.

That they are and they carry diseases!
Lyme disease is most serious! Strike a
match, blow it out and immediately place
the hot match on the tick, it should let
go easily. Then you can take tweezers and
remove it. I NEVER take a tick off using
my hands....to much at risk!

ok, so i'm supposed to keep rubbing it
with alcohol until it falls off? i'm
definitely going to need rudy's muzzle for
this.
and i don't rip them out with my bare
hand! ewww! i use a tissue, my skin never
comes in contact with it. oh, and my dog
would attack me like a rabid beast if i
put a hot match near his skin.

I've always soaked a cotton pad in
surgical spirit (english term for rubbing
alcohol) then hold it on the tick for as
long as poss - couple mins and maybe try
again a bit later.
but pulling it can leave the jaws so don't
do it nooooooooooooooo

Eeeeeeeek! That sucks .bridget! And no,
they don't die after they fall off. The
other ladies had some great
suggestions....I've never heard of the
rubbing alcohol, I hope I never have to
use it! I am also disgusted by
them....they're so creepy.
