Bulimia is a psychiatric eating disorder. A person with bulimia eats food in large quantities and then throws it up. Frequent cases of vomiting can cause inflammation of the esophagus and mouth, and can damage the teeth, or caries. Inflammation of the esophagus can damage blood vessels in the mucosa that manifests with throwing up blood. During bulimia, weight can either stay within a normal range or decrease. Psychiatrists treat people who are diagnosed with bulimia, so you can consider seeking help from a mental health professional. There are also support groups where others experiencing eating disorders help one another in recovery from bulimia.
