Table Food

Laura's post got me thinking. When did
you start giving your baby bites of table
food. Ava's still on stage 1, we have 2
more veggies and 3 more fruits to go, so
I'm not asking b/c I want to give her
anything yet. She loves her squash and
pears too much right now. I'm just
wondering when you started? Did they have
teeth at the time? Does that matter?

Alyvia doesn't have teeth yet. I make sure
that everything I give her is in tiny
bites soft enough to gum, and I give her
plenty of water. I watch her like a hawk
while she eats - I am super-paranoid about
her choking.
She started showing a real interest about
a month ago, so it was when she was 7
months. We started really
feeding her this past week, though.

Trace only has his two bottom teeth and he
manages just fine. you can give table food
whenever, i know a lot of people that skip
baby food altogether. my mom never even
bought baby food for my brothers. just
mash up whatever youre eating. its
healthier than giving jarred food with
preservatives.

I had a mini mincer when my daughter was a
baby and I made all of her baby food. It
was much healthier and saved a ton of
money.
Now I have a magic bullet, which I
absolutely love, and will make .Jaylon's
when the time comes

I love the magic bullet too!!! I haven't
bought one jar of baby food for Noah.
I've steamed all his veggies and fruits
from fresh and used the magic bullet to
puree it. It's so much healthier and .I
have fun doing it too!

magic bullet sounds like a sexy toy...
anyway, to people who are making their own
baby food, i just read that there are
certain homemade veggies that babies under
8 months shouldn't have because of
nitrates (or something like that), all i
can remember right now is carrots but
there were more. i'd look it up but my
computer is crawling along tonight.

That's wild! Gerber has a stage 1 carrot
available. Do they prepare it differently
than it would be at home, I wonder?

I always wondered if the magic bullet
would be worth the price. They look neat,
and like you could do quite a bit with
them.
We started table foods about 8 months, and
she was basically eating everything we
had, and wouldn't touch baby food at about
10 months. But if I were to do it over
again, I probably would have skipped baby
food all together, except maybe the
cereal. I think they can have table foods
when they can have solids, as long as it's
the righ consitency!

The bullet is so worth the price. I
wondered too when I saw the infomercial on
tv. It seemed too good to be true.
I got mine for christmas, but would have
bought one if I didn't.
I make fruit smoothies in it all the time.
It comes with a book with all kinds of
really easy recipes and hints. It's a lot
easier to clean than a blender or food
processer.

I want one of them hehe, how much do they
run? joseph i think we started on solids
around 8 mths , just did it slow with
stage 2 then 3 foods and around 11-12mths
we would cut everything up like the size
of my pinky finger nail for him to eat.
I cut everything like that haha its a
habit . Even though now hes almost 2 and
can eat things without it being cut up
like he has eaten pizza fine but i used to
cut that up into teeny tiny pieces as well
but he had plenty of teeth to chew with,
jordynne always watches us eat like its
not fair that she doesnt have any food
like we have lol she has that sad look of
i want some , how come im not getting any
on her face lol

I'm not really sure how much they cost in
a retail store. Around $50? I saw one on
an infomercial yesterday and it was 3
payments of $33, but that came with 2
complete systems. It also included the
blender and the juicer, which I don't
have, but I would love to.
Edited to say that I still cut up my
daughters meats, and she is almost 17!
