I belive i have cholinergic urticaria but
i can not get any medical professional to
listen to me. i have requested testing for
this particular disorder and my allergist
insisted that its not that. About 3 years
ago i all of sudden developed psoriasis or
eczema (no job, no insurance, no testing)
it was an inconvenience but I could deal
with a little itching. Then in early 2005
i had what i now know was analyphtic shock
twice. Both times were while playing a
sport and during the summer. Both times it
went away in like 30 minutes so i thought
nothing of it. Then the whole fall,
winter, spring I was good. i would get the
occasional hives come spring time when i
was mowing the grass but they didn't itch,
they didn't feel hot, they were just
there. Well July of 2006 rolled around and
i was playing football like I've done for
years when i swelled up a grotesque
amount. i had to be rushed to the
hospital, given epinephirine, the whole
thing. Now as a side note i am very
overweight but i was actually starting to
work out when all this took place and was
starting to see some real positive
results. i was down to 230 lbs from
240lbs. Anyway, so after the whole
situation i was still good. i decided to
avoid grass thinking that was my one main
allergy ( still no insurance to get
tested) and was doing good for 2 weeks or
so, no hives, no swelling. Then i went for
a brisk walk with my friend one night. i
broke out into huge hives got nervous went
to the hospital but they did not develop
into anything more than hives. After this
i would get slight hives when heating up
but nothing too bad. I thought maybe i had
ran into some grass pores while walking
and so decided to limit my outdoor
activities. Then in October while doing my
job ( a security guard, takes a lot of
walking) I was just finishing up inside,
was not even outside when i swelled up
again and had to be run to the hospital.
Now i knew it was more than grass so in
November i got tested. i was told i was
severely allergic to grass ( 3 different
kinds), dustmites 9 but who isn't but mine
are a little more severe then most
peoples) and cats ( I have had a cat for
over 14 years all of sudden i am
allergic?) well i immediately got rid of
the cat, cleaned my room to remove most
dust mites and of course avoid grass but
now i have developed what I belive to be
cholinergic urticaraia. This entire winter
whenever I went into the building ( i work
at an elderly home) I would always break
out into very severe hives all over my
body, (face, neck, chest, arms, legs, one
time even my testicles and that was
reallly scary) I am currently on a daily
regiement of 180 mg of allegra, 30 mg
pepcid, 30 mg singulair which is supposed
to pretty much shut down my histamine.
well my outbreaks are fewer (but only
because i avoid the heat like nobodies
business ) and less severe ( now they only
cover my face, neck and chest, and the
joints of my arms ) When i do have an
outbreak i am authorized to take an
additional 60 mg of allegra but not all
the time, since sometimes i work 3rd shift
it sucks when i have to take a benadryl
and then fight those effects. Also since
this has happened i all of sudden am
diagnosed with anxiety which has gotten
worse recently 9i belive because of the
singulair something to bring up at my next
allergist appt.) Stress is a huge
contributing factor to my outbreaks, but
unlike some people whose outbreaks go away
after a few minutes mine always tak over
an hour sometimes up to 4 or 5. since i do
go into analyphitc shock from it running
to try and work all the histamine out of
my system is not an option. So any other
remedies you guys can think of to post i
would so appreciate it, i need to get rid
of this thing before i get fatter, lose my
job, and pretty much destroy my life any
more. i will start trying some of the
other things you guys have listed and i
will continue to research this problem
anything I find i will post. Thanks for
listening guys. most of the time just
talking about it can make me break out,
but since i am talking to other people who
know what I am talking about i actually
feel better.
