question, can taking depression med's such
as paxil or Effexor decrease a mans
desire? 42 year old, healthy male,
professional, successful man. long term
relationship of 6 years with beautiful
woman.
I have no desire what so ever, I was
taking Paxil, which killed everything, but
then recently switched to Effexor. I can
cum again, and have started masturbating
daily, so good have not had that since
taking med's, however it is interfering
with my relationship with my girlfriend.
I have not had intercourse with her for 16
months, she is patient and we spoon,
cuddle, and masturbate together but I am
unable to actually have intercourse. What
could be the problem, she is interesting
fun and desirable, i may loose her and
dont want that.

Yes, depression meds often have sexual
side effects listed even during their tv
commercial.

Absolutely, like Eiri said,
anti-depressants can cause loss of libido,
ED, and anorgasmia.
I took Effexor after a stressful time with
a medical problem. At first it destroyed
my desire, but over a few weeks I gained
it back and it had no effect on my
erections, little on my desire, but did
make it difficult to reach orgasm. I
wasn't worried, because I saw it as
temporary and got off the drug.
If you're going to be taking it for a long
time, you should talk to your doctor about
other options. Not all drugs effect
everyone the same and they're might be one
that doesn't effect you as badly. Since
you can masturbate, perhaps you can save
your desire for your woman.
Also, you might want to look in Amoryn.
It's a natural anti-depressant with a
success rate similar to prescription
anti-depressants, but without as many side
effects. May I note though that you cannot
take it at the same time as Effexor and
there might be a need for 2-3 weeks (ask
your doctor though) in between taking the
drugs. Also, anti-depressants have bad
withdrawal effects so if you decide to
come off them, look into books that work
to phase you off the drug without
withdrawals.
