Breast Feeding-i Am So Sick of This Posted: 04-18-07 13:55pm
My 10 month old little girl was not
getting enough breast milk when she nursed
and was underweight. I was only pumping 2
oz each time at the time, so we determined
that I probably was not producing enough
milk. I have been on fenugreek and
mother's milk tea for 6 weeks now, but not
a lot of improvement in output. The Dr.
suggested I try giving her formula. So I
did, and she was much happier and has
gained over a pound in the last month. I
have still been nursing in the morning and
at night. There are times when she is not
interested in nursing at all, but is most
interested in the morning and hen I get
home from work. I have a bunch of bottles
in the freezer and the babysitter has been
giving those as well. I just got a call
from her indicating that baby has started
refusing the breast milk. I guess this has
happened for three days in a row now. I
still have about 20 bottles in the
freezer, and I really would like for her
to have these. I can't believe she is
rejecting breast milk. I feel rejected all
over again. The big question is, how do I
get these last bottles into her?

if she really doesn't want it, i
wouldn't force her. if she eats lots of
fruit, veg and cows milk then she should
get enough nutrients
formula does not compare to breastmilk in
terms of nutrients and antibodies.
and yes, that is really odd...usually
babies prefer breastmilk over formula.
have you tried mixing 50/50 to get her to
drink it?

Her babysitter did that yesterday, and she
did finally drink it. Someone told me to
refuse her formula and just give her the
breast milk, but I can't really do that
since she is underweight. This really
sucks. I would have brest fed her until
her senior prom if she wanted to.

lol, that reminds me of that video we saw
of extended breastfeeding!
Mixing them will "trick" her into drinking
it. You really do want to keep givin her
breastmilk. ANd if you've got to, keep
mixing it.
If I could have breastfed for the 1st year
I would have. Feel greatfull that she's
done it for 10 months!
not rejected!
