O.K..first time post---over the past few
years, my hands have become more and more
stiff, swollen and hurt constantly. I also
have major problems with the fingers
locking up, won't unlock and now my left
thumb is virtually useless. I live in the
Dallas area and trying to get an appt.
with a rheumatoligist as a new patient is
ridiculous. (5:30 A.M. appts. etc.)
Does anyone have similar problems and can
you offer me any advice?
By the way, I am a 51 year old female,
have had knee pains for years, back issues
with my lower lumbar, but now the hands
have become just the worst of all!

Hi, im sorry you're having all that pain.
I have something similar going on with my
hands right now. It's happened before, on
and off, but lately it's been going on for
5 weeks without end. All my joints where
the fingers meet the hands are stiff and
painful, plus the joints midway up the
fingers. THis is going on in both my
hands, my right being worse. They do feel
swollen, but don't look it. I can hardly
stretch them out. Work is killing me with
writing, I keep dropping things, and it's
hard to open things. So I totally
understand how it feels. I know I have
lupus and OA in many joints, also
spondylosis. BUt I'm not sure if it's
lupus or OA related in my hands. I havent
mentioned it to my doc yet. It is seeming
that this horrid humidity we're having
lately is making it worse. Have you ever
noticed that?
