Confused About Melissa & Darling
Posted: 02-19-04 13:52pm

Okay my deal is that when I read the letter that melissa wrote(tonya). She said that a social worker was assigned to her for trying to commit suicide. I understood that far. What I don't understand is that darling just wrote today about leaving school early. I don't understand is she a student or is she a social worker which is it? To my understanding highschools have school counselors, not social workers. I don't want to offend darling, I just want to understand what is going on. I'm just trying to be a little cautious with who I could trust and who I can't.

Actually i'm not offended at your post simply confused about why you named the post confused about melissa and darling. Anyways I am not a practising social worker. Let me explain. I am 23 years old (i'm sad about that haha my birthday was february 8th I was born in 1981 im old!) I completed a bachelor of arts degree in childhood and family relations at the university of western ontario at the faculty of king's college. This in lamen's terms is a ba in social work. I currently entered a college (not university) in order to get hands on training in my field of choice. In my training (where I circulate group homes and hospitals with other experienced social workers) I come in contact with many people who have had numerous difficulties in their lives. School counsellors are not (caps) responsible for suicide attempts that land children in the hospital. I talked to tonya before disclosing this but about a year ago (during the beginning of my training) we (the team of us consisting of both social workers and psychiatrists, occupational therapists etc.) were called to the emergency room of sick children's hospital in toronto ontario canada. Upon arrival I met a beautiful girl who had just attempted to overdose on tylenol and she was in the middle of drinking the many cups of charcoal necessary in order to stop the medication from continuing to enter her system. I spoke with her on my own and with the my fellow co-workers and I see her now on a fairly regular basis to catch up with her and her family and to make sure that things are running smoothly because there were issues before. I hope all of this makes sense to you because when a child attempts suicide social workers are immediately involved in order to aid both the family and the child and determine the causes to help solve them. Now it's up to you whether you would like to trust me or not I simply love this forum and thought that tonya could get some support here. Maybe I was wrong

Darling thanks for replying, I get it now. I just confused some of the names. Thanks, I hope you do well in what you are taking up in school.
